Are Med school Application help services worth it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it worth it to pay for services that help you with medical school applications? Services such as MedEdits or Passport Admissions (http://www.passportadmissions.com/)?

I think I need the help with the essays, especially secondaries, but I don't know if it is worth the cost... They are so expensive. If I do invest my money in these services, I want to make sure it is well worth it.

Thanks!

Probably not. Your pre-health director probably cares more about your success than them, and at the very minimum they can give your stuff a once-over. Have friends you trust read over it. I worry that if you try a service like this, you may just come across as being a tryhard - because you'd kind of be one. I'd be worried your app would become artificial and not who you are - because it wouldn't be.

Just seems like as waste of money for questionable benefit, especially given that there are likely people available to you who can provide valuable input.

If you're worried about the personal statement on the primary application, you can always wait another month or two when the big thread opens up where members here will check personal statements.
