So we all know pharmacy is saturated but I want to know if anyone (ACPE, Colleges of Pharmacy themselves) are doing anything about the flux of PharmDs.

Anyone have any information on this? Are new schools STILL opening? Is ACPE allowing this? Are colleges cutting back on class sizes?

On a side note, in my school on the very first day of class they painted a pretty bleak picture of job prospects. What upset my classmates and my self was the fact that my particular school's class size grew by 500% in 10 years! The schools themselves created the influx. Lemme guess? Greed?

Oh nevermind that last paragraph, I would really love info on my question.
Thanks!

The answer is no, no one is doing anything about it. There are numerous new schools continuing to open, and older schools are greatly expanding class sizes. I think we are about 2 years away from University of Phoenix opening an online school. There are a bunch of pharmacy organizations and groups, and they all do little more than have bake sales.

I found this thread on SDN, it has a list of 18 new schools scheduled to open from 2010-2012. I think this list might be incomplete. These schools are all open for business by now and there is probably a list of another 18 schools scheduled to open between 2012-2014. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I hope that I am. As long as you are prepared to move to rural Alaska, you will probably be able to find a job.

First time, I heard a school blatantly say this. Good, but they are 4 years behind... 200k in debt, can you hear?

"Shortage of pharmacist" has been told over and over by so many schools. This is like newbies drinking alcohol... 1 shot... "Dude, I feel nothing..." 2-3 shots later... "dude, nothing..." 4 shots "OMG!!! I am an idiot... vomits and passes out"

Looks like even Alaska has an over supply now.

I wish they would stop already with the new schools.. 👎

You must have missed the thread. The new Alaska is Iraq for pharmacy jobs. You can make 200k in a year plus a free camel👍

Yeah but all of these damn jobs in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc require 2-3+ years of experience and don't seem interested in new grads. I'd still apply just to see if they are willing to overlook the experience so they can fill the position.

I know, actually the bakes are good. But true, they dont do a thing about it!

Getting accepted to a pharmacy school used to mean something. Now, it is pretty easy with all of these for-profit schools. Too bad for the new graduates, more than half of their take home pay will go to student loans. That is if they can even find a full time position.
