Title says it all. Are out of state applicants viewed the same as in state applicants or is preference given to those who live in state?
Depends on the school. For almost all public schools, the in-state candidates are prioritized.Title says it all. Are out of state applicants viewed the same as in state applicants or is preference given to those who live in state?

Looking at the MSAR, it seems even most private schools have more IS matriculants than OOS but that could simply be a geography preference for the applicant.
However, some schools (EVMS for example) have lower stats for OOS than for IS implying that it's easier for OOS students to get in. Why is that?
In this case the school has ~48/52% IS/OOS, the MCAT Median for OOS is 3 points lower than IS, and the GPA is 0.1 lower for OOS so it's rather dramatic. Maybe something specific to this school? How much lower (within the distribution of IS or very far away)? What percentage of matriculants are OoS (is sample size skewing the data)?
