Are post-bacc programs hard to get into?

Hello, My name is jackie and this is my first post here. I've been reading a lot of old threads these past couple of days, and there is obviously a great wealth on information here.

My question is... is post-bacc school difficult to get into? Is this something to be stressed about?

looks like i'm gonna be hanging around here for the next couple of years... 🙂

Hello, My name is jackie and this is my first post here. I've been reading a lot of old threads these past couple of days, and there is obviously a great wealth on information here.

A little about me... i'm 22 years old, I go to UC Riverside - senior in Sociology. I messed up big time in my freshman and softmore years, but my grades are on a sharp incline. Right now, my GPA is 2.7 and it's moving up fast.... i'm hoping to graduate with at least a 3.0 - 3.2. yeah. :-( I made the decision to go to the persue an md degree this summer. My mom sat down with me and said she would support me 100%. And i've always had an interest medicine. I've also been an EMT for over two years.

My plan after i graduate next summer (june 06) is to attend post-bacc school where i can hopefully bring up my GPA and standing. I also plan on taking some pre-chem and pre-bio courses at a community college to prepare myself for those courses.

My question is... is post-bacc school difficult to get into? Is this something to be stressed about?

Some are (especially the more formal programs, Bryn Mawr etc), some are not (I believe Harvard Extension is open enrollment, but you need to get certain grades and MCAT score during the postbac to get a sponsorship letter from them). Your best bet is to apply to several programs you are interested in, and see what happens. If you don't get in can always just take the applicable courses at any university without being in a specific program until you have taken all the prereqs and your GPA is up to the competitive level (a so called do it yourself postbac).
