Hey guys, I've heard responses that take long are good because they are taking the time to look into your application positively, while most of my friends who were accepted took 6 weeks or less (probably because if they really want you, there is no doubt on their minds so the response is quick). So what is the truth? And why does it take longer to evaluate some applicants and shorter for others? Please tells us(or me) if you have insight into this.

Most likely if they are taking al ong time...that means that they are trying to ddetermine if you are waitlist material or acceptance material! So chill dude! YOu are in a good position! 🙂

sometimes it takes a long time bc your interviewer wasn't prompt in returning the recommending letter.
or sometimes the committee reviewing your file only meets every other week or something and the timing works out that it takes longer for you than others.

so it doesn't necessarily mean anything...

Don't worry too much about it -- there are schools where I interviewed in the early fall and haven't heard from since. I just sent them a nice letter telling them how much I like the scholl etc. after a few months. They are still considering you application, so that is a good thing!

So far, one said it's good, and another said it doesnt matter. Hehe. Anyone else? Can you elaborate on why the "timing" of reviewing my application may take longer or shorter than others? There are people who interviewed after my date who got accepted already!!! And there is one person who interviewed a month before but still no response. ??? Please help  .

It's not black and white. There are a lot of gray areas, and the only people who could accurately answer that question are the members of the Ad Com at the schools. I know what you mean though...I haven't been rejected post-interview from any of my schools, yet I hear about someone getting in who interviewed after me. I dunno...just hope for the best. Sorry, I wasn't able to help out much. Think of it this way...if they haven't thrown us out the door yet, we have still have a chance. 🙂

wait i thought i did elaborate on why the "timing" of your review can take longer than others...?

1. maybe your interviewed is behind and hasn't gotten the report back to the committee yet

2. the subcommittee probably reviews many applications in each session. if you were randomly lined up to be reviewed 10th, they could have just run out of time. so you'll be delayed until the next committee meeting which may happen the next week or two weeks later, etc. depending on what their schedule is.

🙂 Thanks guys for your input.

Some schools (like Albany for example) give applicants scores after the interview and only those who score very highly are admitted right off the bat. As time goes on, and they see what the applicant pool looks like, they start lowering the bar for admittance.
