Is getting an SLOR a must for matching into EM? Also how will that look if I apply to FM programs as well and they see my SLOR for EM? Is there anyway you can select what letters certain programs can see based the the field?

A SLOR (or 2) is an absolute must for matching EM. As far as applying to FM, you can choose which letters get sent to any individual program, so your FM programs need not see any SLORs.

Thanks, you answered my question perfectly. I have another one, you said we can select which letters certain programs see, I assume we could do the same with personal statements as well? For example I have a personal statement for EM programs and one for FM programs.

Yes. You can select which programs get what so if you applied to two different specialties they wouldn't know unless you told them.

That is also correct -- you can select for each program which personal statement you'd like to send, and which letters you'd like to send.
