Are the DAT scores posted on SDN the norm?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Remember,

National AA Average: 17
SDN AA Average: 20+

You also have to account for those that fluctuates their actual scores in an effort to maintain privacy. So all in all, you have a good DAT score.

If it makes you feel any better: If you had applied in Texas last year, out of 934 students in the dental pool, about 164 will have a score in between 20-21.

You are more then competitive. 19 is the avg of accepted applicatants and 17 is the national average. Take a deep breath... Your fine.

Adcoms like seeing high, consistent scores across the board, and a 21/21/21 will almost certainly do its job and get you interviews as compared to the average interviewee with a 19/19/19.

And once you get the interview....you have the same opportunity to get admitted as someone with a 24/24/24.

Granted, this is assuming you have a competitive GPA (3.5+). Keep in mind that many SDNers who got 24+ have 3.3s or 3.2s.

about 14,000 people took the DAT last year and only 1,197 scored AA 21+. The data is in Doc Toothache's spreadsheet.

There's a bunch of nerds on here so don't worry. For me I'm not a nerd though. Don't worry a 21 is awesome especially in the 3 categories!

haha no joke...some people get like 25AA and they say "it wasn't too hard...i should've done better." don't pay attention to peoples' scores

As everyone said, SDN users are the cream of the crop. these are not the norm. I was looking at one of Doc Toothache's threads today from his mini guide and it actually talked about this. In some table from July 06 to July 07 ( i think those are the right dates) there was 1 27s, 6 26s, and 44 25s so just around 50 ppl getting 25 for higher.

One thing i have noticed every year is that these high scores seem to appear when summer ends. Food for thought.

Hey, I have a question.

There are about ~5200 seats available. I know the below quote said something, do you have a link to it.

It's possible that there are 5200 fellows who scores above 21+ and take up all the spots?

Hi,

So I just joined SDN and have been looking through the DAT breakdowns and scores. Many of the scores are really high (like 24+), and I was just wondering if these scores are representative of what most pre-dental students are getting now, or not. The only reason I ask is that I'm worried that my scores (21AA, 21TS, 21PAT) might not be competitive for dental schools.

Any response would be greatly appreciated!

Even your scores are no representative of most applicants.
