Reminds me of the time my partner turned an EKG upside down and showed it to surgeon while explaining why his case was canceled. Surgeon studied EKG with him and nodded in agreement with his explanation of what was wrong with it.
“Case cancelled. Diffuse inverted t waves in all leads”
No, real pathology.
Same surgeon who wouldn’t talk to me for weeks. On pre-op visit I advised family of Child’s class C patient that I wouldn’t have Whipple performed on my family member and they refused scheduled surgery. Patient died 2 days later. Minister sent me a letter thanking me for my honesty.
For $100 it is worth it for a fellow. But not essential. I trained with two ipsis presidents for contex. I’m a big fan of sis in general. The IPSIS courses are very worthwhile for a fellow.
However the new IPSIS guidelines are worse than the first edition guidelines. The book is three times as thick but half as useful as the first edition. The second edition no longer include key procedures like stellate, lumbar sympathetic blocks, and SIJ RFA, but still includes outdated chapters on cervical and thoracic discograms, IDET, biacuplasty, etc.
The 2nd edition (new guidelines) are not user friendly for a fellow. A lot of unnecessary info and poor visual representation of the procedure techniques. Much of the RFA instruction/photos is also outdated compared to modern RFA equipment and techniques.
I would purchase the Furman atlas all day over the IPSIS guidelines if I could have only one.
