So I went to the kaplan site and they said they just came out with the new Kaplan 2009-2010 edition the green books. It is stated that some portions have been revamped like pharma and that the videos have also added in new content. So I was gonna get the 2008 edition of kaplan lecture notes/ videos form a friend of mine used. I don't feel like spending a fortune but those who have the new notes has the content really changed that much---that perhaps it is worth to buy the new 2009-2010 edition?

They are updated, but barely. They've taken some text, and turned them to tables instead. The majority of the changes are cosmetic at best. You'll be fine with the old edition.

hey thanks for the reply what about the videos i heard they have like Dr. Conrad Fisher is doing clinical cases and that there is addition to some of the lectures. How much change is there in the videos?

Sorry, I'm of no use to you there. I took a live lecture. 🙁

if you don't mind me asking how did you do? and is kaplan all you used or did u supplement it with other books?

I'm still studying for this beast! 🙁 I'm a chronically slow studier, due to a weird OCD-like compulsion I have to know and memorize every last detail.

Having said that, I have used the Goljan RR Path book, and his RR Biochem book as a supplement to the Kaplan Biochem text.

They are changed, quite a bit. My school hands out kaplan books your first week of school and i had the light blue ones. Then Kaplan came around and we got a whole new set (green). Since i made all my notes over the past two years in the blue ones, i thought i would just use those. Yeah...lol....no.... especially for physio! they took out all the Qs in physio and put them in the Qbook...so now there is not a single Q in the actual physio lecture notes.
I like the new books alot better, they are well organized, but of course have a few errors non the less. My class lucked out; we had the authors for the majority of the topics. The Micro/Immuno lady is magnificant!!!!!!!! I learned it better than i have in the two semesters we have it in our school!

hey doc diva could you elaborate more---like have you noticed any big changes besides the removal of questions or moving out text to form tables. Is there any new information they added or its just they changed the presentation of the text. Also what do you recommend-should I get the new ones or stick to the old ones I already have. The thing is that im using kaplan as my primary means of study and don't want to miss out anything if supposedly new high yield information has been added.

http://www.kaptest.com/Medical_Licensing/Step-1/new-products.html if you havent seen it yet

The new videos have been done but they arent out yet. Novemember 16 is the supposed launch date from who I talked to.

Home study series is presented in organ system format. So as a first year you wont find a single "Anatomy" or "Biochemistry" book like you would with the lecture notes. You would look at the anatomy section in each organ system section. Seems like it could get confusing but i could be wrong.

The thing with the new lecture notes/videos is how are you going to get them? I dont think the black market DVD thing is going to be happening with the new vids. You could buy into a program but... as a first year? They're time limited so its not like you can buy access to the videos for 2 years without paying out the nose.

DocDiva, are you sure you're talking about the 2008 books, as they aren't light blue? They're dark blue/indigo. The light blue was from 2006-07. I have gone through my friend's brand-new, 2010 books (green cover), and they really aren't that different from the 2008 books. Although, I must admit that I didn't really check the Physio book.😳 I'm quite sure that phd89 will be fine with the 2008 books. BTW, you are very lucky to have gotten who you did for Micro. Our Micro guy was ridiculously bad, he even admitted that he had no idea why Kaplan chose him to do a live lecture!? 🙁
