Are there any downfalls to letting patients have a letter to tint their cars?

Is there any downfall to giving out letters to patients who "subjectively" feel they need some tint in their car windows?

Are there any legal pitfalls?

Thanks

I would never write a letter for this. Simple solution: Polarized Sunglasses. There is no medical reason for me to justify that a tinted windshield should be in place.

I'm still a first year so I don't know if there are serious reasons to allow window tint, but I do know that I have extremely sensitive eyes and Ryan is right, polarized suns solve the problem. I mean, I wear suns when it's cloudy out because it just makes my eyes feel so much better. I've never had tint on my windows. I hate when people have black windows, but that's another rant for another day.

My OD never writes letters for it either.

Agreed. I'd be willing to bet 99% of these people just want super dark tint because it looks cool. I wouldn't want to be the doc to sign off on it should something bad happen because of it. What that might be I don't know. I mostly just don't like giving in to people who BS me.

If I'm the spouse/widower of a police officer who gets hurt/killed while pulling over Thuggie G in his hoopty, and I found out an opto/optho fraudulently ordered the opaque windows through which s/he was shot, I'd be coming to sue their grandchildren into poverty.

Yes, it's an extreme, highly improbable example--but why would anyone risk their ethics, reputation, and license by doing something like that?

To be fair, if Thuggie G is actually willing to shoot a cop, then I think it's highly unlikely that they are going to be all that concerned with getting the form filled out for tinted windows so as not to run afoul of DMV regulations.

Fair point.

The tint ticket is just another fundraiser for the city. I like having tint because it is more comfortable for me to drive without bright light coming in from the sides and all around. Even with sunglasses, it's uncomfortably bright in the year-round LA sun. The added privacy is another major factor. I wish I had the freedom to do with my car what I desire. I honestly don't think the cops will care if someone has a letter for tint. I wish it were true though. For some, the only option is to re-tint every so often.

What are you going to do now without your Coaches? And do they tint windows on the farm? I didn't think tractors had windows... maybe I'm wrong. 😉 Sorry about your specs, though, you better keep a closer eye on your dog.

hahaha, they don't!... he doesn't believe in sunglasses anyway, I wrote this entire paper on UV rays a couple years ago and asked him some questions for it and he was like, "UV rays? I never wear sunglasses and I'm a farmer!!" 🙄

And that dog is under close watch from now on!! She's so bad sometimes.
