Are there any moderators in this forum?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
alliecat is one of them

our moderators have been good about refraining from removing threads/posts unless there is a clear violation of the posting rules, even when they strongly disagree with the opposing person.

Thanks, sumstorm. 🙂 👍 We try! By the way, the other moderator of the veterinary forums is dyachei. 🙂

lol. I kept trying to think...and kept coming up with D.... but couldn't get my exhausted brain to come up with Dyachei.

and I know you and I disagree on some core aspects of vet education, and have had some heated debates...but I know I find value in your views, and appreciate that the same respect is given to the forum users...though I am curious about one recently pulled thread.

Yeah, I will point out that the moderators only serve to remove posts that violate the terms of service on SDN. Otherwise, they can offer a reminder to be civil... but they can't step in unless things get out of hand. Like, really out of hand.

I'm not assuming anything about why you want to know, but if you are possibly thinking they aren't doing their jobs because everyone is being cruel... I encourage you to visit the pre-allo section of the forum. It might seem a bit rough here lately (no arguments from me, it's definitely been a bit odd lately) but it's still pretty damn civil for an anonymous Internet forum.

Off topic, but hi alliecat! also from the DC area 😀

Hi, Matt! *waves* There are a few other DC folks on here as well (runnerDC comes to mind, but haven't seen her in ages).

sumstorm, I can assure you that there is a collaborative process that goes along with deciding to pull/delete posts and threads. Unfortunately, however, we are not allowed to discuss specifics of those conversations. And even though we disagree about issues from time to time, I definitely respect what you have to say and always find it interesting, too. 🙂 👍

Agreed. This is still one of the most civil forums I've ever seen. Evidence: I have yet to see a thread be Godwinized.

You know, the GRE is basically like what the Nazis might have used as part of their project to breed a superior race. All this "selection" and stuff based on arbitrary characteristics....

There! :meanie:

You have me curious about which one.

Apparently half of the oddity on this forum is caused by me just plain existing.

Yup, we definitely talk extensively about posts we pull/delete and try to do our best in being fair to all users about the Terms of Service.

Just for the OP, if there ever is a post you are concerned about, hit the triangular warning sign to report the post. We look at all reported posts, not just PMs from users.👍

I think it was the OT: Thread of not so awesome

or something like that haha. I enjoyed reading it really, there was some good insight...mixed in with the reasons why it was removed (I'm assuming). I could be wrong and just couldn't find the post tho 😛

That thread hasn't been deleted--it's just that nobody's posted on it in a few days. Here it is: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=791659

FYI, it is EXTREMELY rare that entire threads are deleted. There are very few cases where that occurs.

I just spent 20 minutes over on the Pre-med board.

Every single thread over there is filled with some of the most intense vitriol and snark I have seen on the internet.

Let's keep our outrage in perspective. Nobody dropped the c-word over here yet.

....

Cookies!

*skedaddles*

LOL.

I was being an antagonist on the thread that was removed. I know folks think I am often an antagonist, but it is rare that I actually do feel a really strong desire to poke, but on that occasion....:poke:

And I saw who posted on it next, and didn't bother to go back to it. Being told all the negatives about myself by someone who's never met me, including my general existance in the world as being wrong and a cause of strife and cost in their life (before they were even born 🙄) other times meant I didn't opt to see how horrible I was this time (partly because I knew I was stirring the pot.) :diebanana:

Trust me, it definitly wasn't a thread worth following. I was home with the flu, and generally discontent with the world, and the level of defensivenss just rubbed me the wrong way, but I foolishly validated it by continueing it. 👎

It was in the vet forum, nyanko 🙂

ooooh, well sumstorm all I posted in that thread was something about the OP's mom offering CareCredit for her services or something. It isn't always about you, you know? 😉

LOL. well, you and I both tend to go off at times 😀...and there was some justifiable reasons to go off on me on that thread, and you sometimes like the oppurtunity just as much as I do..

i wish i read this thread you are talking about, im so very lost

It wasn't very entertaining. either someone was on a fishing expedition or a troll, and i was having fun, or someone was sincerly trying to write an article/script/website about care credit and didn't want to wait to call CC and ask questions (or had and had been turned down info wise) and wanted the information from us and I was a major jerk because I found her reasoning misguided (she heard/presumed somene did not get offered care credit), her purpose mis-stated (either she was writing a story/article/study for a publication or she was writing a script for a vet clinic that a friend owned), her data sourcing inappropriate (we aren't care credit, we shouldn't speak for them, and anything we tell her is anecdotal) and I didn't feel it was the forum's job to support her end goal (make money via information gathered.)

Now, if she was legit, then I really wasn't very nice, but to me it felt very purposeless (her question was how much does CC charge vets.) I did give some background on why I found the inquiry problematic; there is some controversy and an inquiry in NY over care credit and whether vets are participating in predatory lending by using CC.

I so badly want to be snarky and hit the triangle on Nyanko's nazi comment... but since both the mods are vet students and school is currently in session, it seems like a particularly mean thing to do.

Sigh. 🙂

You've got to admit though, some of their retorts are pretty clever.

Oh... I love it over there.

I'm coming from the section of the internet where that's the only way to communicate.

This whole 'tact on a message board' thing is pretty new to me.

"Tact? On my internet?!"
It's more likely than you think.
