Are there any schools which I shouldn't apply to if I have no research experience?

I know there is another thread like this right now, but there aren't too many answers on there about specific schools. Anyway, I have no research experience and not very impressive ECs. Are there any schools I should avoid applying to because they prefer applicants with research experience? I'm interested in Stanford, but I've heard that school is geared more towards academic medicine, isn't it?

I definitely think Stanford emphasizes research -- in both their med school curriculum and in their admissions process. Everyone I know (including myself) was asked about their research experience extensively during the interviews. If you really want to go there, don't let this hold you back from applying... We all know this application process is a crap shoot anyway... but know that you may be at a disadvantage -- and that Stanford may not be the school for you if you're really not interested in research.

My $0.02... especially as a Stanford undergrad. 😛

The University of Utah requires that applicants have some (albeit minimal) research experience. Their materials say that the minimum required research experience is 2 months. It doesn't matter what it is in, though. My research for my masters in a non-medical field counted.

I can't be certain, but I think Yale puts a fair emphasis on research-- it makes sense since everyone has to do a thesis as part of the MD requirement
