I am curious because I play guitar and draw a lot. So I was wondering if people with high hand dexterity will have some sort of improved surgical skills.

From what I remember from a surgeon, they said they could train a monkey to complete the actual procedures. The bedside manner, personal characteristics, etc. were what defined a great surgeon to them.

An old school general surgeon I shadowed included type A personality, total devotion to work and a high level of physical endurance on his list of must-haves. He seemed to think that surgical residents today don't even work enough hours.

He was an intense guy.
