Are there labs in med school

Ohhhh you're not escaping labs after undergrad 😛

Anatomy and Histology labs 1st year

Microbiology and pathology labs second year

The good news is that there are no lab reports...at least not at my school...but you are responsible for everything covered in lab

god damn it 🙁

The med school labs are harder, but more fun...considering youre learning stuff relevant to what you need to know to practice medicine. The experience of slowly, methodically dissecting a real cadaver is something you'll never forget.

^ well that I'm happy to do 🙂

It really is a love-hate relationship. It's amazing to actually see the intricate relationships between the organs, vessels, nerves, and everything else. Being tested on them, however, is not as much fun...especially when you have to go through high pressure practical exams like at my school.

I think labs in med school will be much better than the ones in college. The whole point of labs in med school is for you to learn the information while the point of labs in college is to fill out the lab report and get credit for it.

We have anatomy, histology, and OMM lab. Clinical practicum small groups is like a lab where you learn to do physical exams. Also during M2 we have a week of procedures which I guess could be called a 'lab' after each block.

Just had anatomy labs at my school. We used a virtual microscope program for histology and never really had specific labs for path/micro. I think you'll find it varies from place to place, but you're likely going to find yourself in a room with cadavers for a lot of hours regardless of where you go.

I'd definitely disagree. The labs in med school are WAY easier than the labs I had in undergrad. No 10 page write-ups, no failed experiments, just show up and do the work and you're done.

We have lab reports at my school. However, they're not bad - they're like the ones from general chem/bio where you handwrite your results in a printed table and answer half a dozen easy questions. They're not 10 page, working on it for hours lab reports.

We have anatomy lab, histology lab, some physio labs for some systems like the cardiovascular system in the first year. I know there are labs in the second, but I'm not sure exactly which classes.

We have anatomy, histology, microbiology, and neuroscience labs.

Histology attendance was optional. Micro usually takes about 20 minutes and was 8 times this semester. Our neuroscience lab was actually 3 hours long and REALLY not fun, but that's life. Overall labs are very laid back.

I dunno. I read somewhere that some schools were moving away from cadaver labs. And UVA is going to be a good portion pro-section for the incoming class, so it won't be as time consuming as dissection.

Wow I really hope that's not true. It really is an amazing learning experience. There is nothing quite like isolating a major vessel for yourself. Some people might disagree with me, but I personally am very glad I had the chance to dissect a cadaver.

We had anatomy and neuro labs. Honestly, the anatomy lab is kind of what I expected anatomy to be in general. Neuro wasn't very often. I think we went down there like 3 times or maybe 4 since we had a project that needed pictures. Microanatomy/Histology has a lab at a lot of schools. We simply have a lecture with an online microscope and go through stuff real fast. Physiology "labs" involved listening to murmurs down in the sim area.

I believe that UCSF does prosections and one of their anatomists wrote a rebuttal to criticisms of prosection in 2004 (Prosection vs. Dissection, the Debate Continues: Rebuttal to Granger- Kimberly Topp). So I wouldn't be surprised if medical education heads that way more over time. That being said, if you're going to medical school anytime soon you'll likely be participating in dissections.
