I have had all of my secondaries completed for months now. Some of them as early as 8/28 and the latest one i submitted was 9/25. the majority of them were in mid Sept.
I have pretty competitive scores (i would like to think). my gpa is >3.75
my mcat is a bit lower unfortunately and in the upper 20's.
I applied to d.o. schools as well. i only applied to 3 of them. and i have already received interviews and will have completed all 3/3 interviews by this monday!!!
I wanted to know, should i just give up hope now? I know that my application has passed all of the preliminary screenings and i have not had any rejections yet except from out of state schools that are competitive as hell for an out of state applicant.
If anyone can shed some light on this situation it would help me alot. thanks.

You might think about reapplying next cycle. Just do something to improve your application such as redo your mcat!

You've had 3 interviews, which means three chances to get into medical school. I don't see a problem unless those three interviews become rejections.

I think the OP means giving up hope for allopathic schools.

You know what, there are still interviews left. I was complete at most schools in like mid December- to early Jan and I have recieved 3 interview invites in the last 2 weeks. I think you still have a chance to hear from schools for like another couple of weeks. Lots of schools interview into marcha nd even April and if there is a cancelation, they might just call YOU.

Question: Mount Sinai, Temple, Penn State, Oregon Health Sciences, Tufts, Baylor - any of them still sending interviews?

Temple sent me an interview offer on Jan 17 so I would guess they are still making offers.

search for last year's february interview thread. I remember it being pretty filled with interviews.

Sinai sent me an interview in January for January... but they're rolling.

i received an interview invite last thursday for Feb 20 or 22 at Rosalind Franklin.

hey Guju. me to. Ill be there on Feb22

Those of you who received invites in January (whether for Feb or whatever), when were you complete at the places that're giving you interviews?

Yes a lot of places are still interviewing up until mid to late March and some as far as into April.

That means there's still a chance even if you end up on waitlist at first.

Also, I have had friends that interviewed at schools in January and February and got in right away without being waitlisted first. So that means that seats may exist though much less in number at rolling schools. Also, nonrolling schools don't let anyone know until end of interviewing is over. So don't give up hope until the cycle is over. Then if you are content going DO, go that route. Otherwise reapply and improve upon your app.

RF and NYMC interview thru April, definitely send in those update letters! and last year there was something abhout calling RF if u were in the "possibly interview" pool or whatever and see if anyone cancelled their interview cause this one guy could authorize interviews on the spot or something if they had an opening, i dunno look into it!

i got an interview invite last year in march, but i was pretty sure it was just for the waitlist, which they ended up taking 2 people from.

Stay strong I just received an interview invite. They are still going out!

I know almost everyone is still interviewing, but does anybody think there is a difference in calliber of applicants currently being interviewed? I mean SDN has a ton of hot-shots on it and the interview page really slowed down a lot recently. Has anybody heard that the majority of post Dec. interviews being applicants that have a less chance of actually being accepted due to 1 - classes filling up and 2 - many of the more competitive applicants have already interviewed.

Unfortunately this may be the case. As all the 40+ mcats surely have already interviewed, however some were probably d-bags and got waitlisted. you can still get accepted over them.

Honestly, I don't think the "SDN effect" is because all the best applicants have been interviewed. Rather, SDNers seem to be more on the ball, and more of them applied super early (except for me 🙄 I'm an idiot).

Oh, I'm not worried about getting interviews I'm pretty much done I think, and did alright. I was just thinking about that though, because I mean if I was a medical school I would interview the best first and then go down the list in terms of who to invite for interviews.

Oh I know, but I'm just saying that just because SDNers have been interviewing early and are hot-shots doesn't neccessarily imply that the hot-shots are being interviewed first.

Yea you are right, but if you look at most ppl who post and their MCAT averages many of them are pretty solid applicants, and I'd reiterate what I said above.

i know but most deadlines for applicants is passed, if you were a medical school wouldn't you invite the top applicants first and then interview the rest as time allows.

I just got one today from a very good school... It was kind of a surprise (as in a complete shock) since I got around to turning in the secondary 4 days before the extended deadline

hang in there- things are still happening

Good. That means they want you. 👍

It depends to a certain extent of what school you are talking about. A school like my state school takes the peope they think have higher caliber first then the other people. Sometimes a higher caliber person will get a later interview but only because they turned in their stuff late. At a school like HMS, most everyone who interviews has higher scores and credentials and deciding who is better is much more tough which is why they wait til all interviews are done before awarding acceptances to people.

I received an invite for AECOM on Jan. 31. Hope that helps.

Yes, I received an interview invite just recently...my first one!

Hey lifetimedoc...have you been keeping in contact with a lot of your schools, or did you just wait and see what would happen with the interview invites?

I sent fall grades via fax in December, and have been going to pre-med fairs. I emailed the school I'm getting interviewed at so ask about my application about how I could improve for next year. Not sure if that was part of it or not, impossible to tell.

Alas, there are no interviews left. The adcoms from every allo school called me yesterday and told me so. To avoid the crushing grip of reality in the next few days, please start drinking, and maybe add some pills.

Woohoo!!! See I told you sending updates and taking the time to talk to them would work. 😉

😀

Also, just so you know the short end of the stick of what I told another friend of mine.......

Interviewing this late doesn't completely hurt because you can still be put up on the high tier waitlist position which means that you pretty much have a 99% guarantee of getting in since a lot of people drop their initial acceptances to USF each year to go to other schools which offered either scholarships or other acceptances at more prestgious institutions or institutions better suited to their liking.

Use Interview feedback that is linked to by the main page of this website. It will give you an idea of the kind of questions to prepare yourself for. Good luck!!! :luck: :luck:

I got one today for MSU College of Human Medicine. Lucky #4?!😳
