Are there things you just won't ever "get"/understand? Or am I just stupid?

I'm retaking orgo. first unit went fine, I did above average on the test and much better than the first time I took the course. Now we're learning about stereochemistry and for the life of me I can't fully grasp it. I'll think I get it then when I go to answer a question the answer is like the opposite of what I thought lol.

It also doesn't help that it seems like whenever I think I understood something, the professor will say "yes but that's wrong because___"

Anyone else ever struggle with something like this? Or am I just someone with below average intelligence?

Yo you better stop it with those self deprecating thoughts or ill beat you up!

You should get a cheap model kit so you can build the molecules to help visualize chirality and stereocenters. It’s not something that just clicks for everyone and takes practice.

I crushed Ochem as a freshman with A’s on all the tests and then absolutely miserably failed biochem the next year. So yes... I didn’t “get” much of biochem and let my pride get in the way of talking to the prof.

I do have a model kit. it's just confusing. I feel like an absolute ***** during this unit.

See if Chads videos help you out with orgo. There's also a guy on YouTube I believe.

I completely forgot about him! I plan on just studying that today by reading the textbook and/or orgo as a second language, taking notes, watching videos, and doing practice problems.

I highly recommend Klein's Orgo textbook and/or Orgo as a Second Language. Amazon product ASIN 1118454316
I had no idea what was going on in Orgo at first. So I heard about this textbook, used a break to go through it, and went on to do well enough that one of my Orgo professors asked me to TA the course.

I actually have a copy of that book. Also, I watched some of Chad's videos today and it helped TREMENDOUSLY. To illustrate my point, I got a 50% on the online homework when I did it last night and after watching his videos, I got a 93% on the "homework quiz" (if that makes sense. But to be fair you get a couple shots at each question). Some stuff is still a little tricky but overall I'm in much better shape.

Back to your point, I'm gonna skim that over and do some practice problems out of it today.
