I'm a little bored tonight and feeling chatty. Lol. Just wondering what you think about my ECs and if I should try to get anything else in the mix. I will be applying next year as a non-trad.

  • Captain of my youth swim team (ages 12-18)
  • Adopt a Highway Volunteer in High School (clean up crew)
  • Captain of High School football team
  • Physical Training Leader for my entire squadron while in the Air Force (lead pt, administered pt tests, helped people achieve their fitness goals and meet the Air Force standards)
  • 200 hours volunteering at an orphanage in Korea (while stationed there with the Air Force)
  • Airmen Assisting Airmen (volunteer to help drunk airmen get home safely)
  • Airmen Leadership Counsel - Kunsan Air Force Base (group of lower enlisted Airmen who helped set up base activities and guide enlisted Airmen in volunteering/career progression/education goals)
  • Air Force Achievement Medal ( for meritorious service in the vehicle maintenance squadron)
  • 120 hours as Pee Wee football coach
  • 100+ hours volunteering at a hospital/ER
  • 100+ hours volunteer in hospice patient care
  • Camp Counselor at Bereavement Camp
  • Personal Trainer
I will definitely be getting some shadowing in as well. I'm working on setting something up with MDs in geriatrics and em so far.

Edit**
I almost forgot. I'm looking to get some research experience under my belt as well. It will probably only be one semester before I apply, but it has more to do with me wanting to do it than needing to do it for my application, so I'm not overly concerned with whether or not it helps.

Thanks guys!

There are two things from high school buckwheat. They also happen to be the first on the list. I'm sure you can skip them and add something of value to the thread. Otherwise, thanks for the interaction.

Well no offense, but how was I supposed to know that? You can be a captain of a swim team in high school or college and you can volunteer in a hospital/camp in high school. So clarify..

No offense taken. 🙂 And I lied anyway. There are 3 things from high school not two. Anyway, I did clarify. Anything from high school is listed as such. Everything else is from post high school including military service.

It's all good though. I didn't mean anything by calling you buckwheat.

Haha! 🙂 I think your ECs are very unique in a good way! 😀

Vets are highly regarded. Given a solid GPA and MCAT you should be golden. If anything, like karayaa said, add shadowing.

I hope you're right. My GPA should be decent. I'm expecting a 3.54ish cumulative and a 3.7 science for MD schools and .1 or so higher on each for DO schools. I have some really crappy grades in low level classes from a few years back, but a 3.87 in my prereqs, which are all recent.

I'm also a married non-trad with two kids. I'm hoping that adds to the diversity aspect a little bit.
