My parent is an MD and they’re trying to ease back into research. They’re considering starting with a case report.

Would I be allowed to help write or edit it since I’m still in undergrad? I know med students write a lot of these but I’m guessing they’d have the appropriate HIPAA or EHR clearances to be able to know details on a patient’s case.

I guess I actually have two questions:
1. Are undergrads typically able to get the clearances required to write a case report?
2. If so, is it ethical for me to write up a case report with a parent?

Thank you in advance.
Yes, both of these things are fine. You do need to get appropriate clearance.
