I don't generally post threads, but I'm actually curious about this.

This morning I got home from work and walked into my apartment and immediately ran into my laundry basket (full of clean but yet-to-be-organized clothing), tripped over a pair of boots, and collided with my drying rack...all strategically planted by my boyfriend to ensure that I couldn't ignore my mess any longer. For some reason, I'm just a wreck. I leave trails of stuff everywhere I go. I'm super organized in my life otherwise (don't you have to be to get into med school?) but at home I'm a disorganized disaster.

So, am I the only pre-med out there who has to wade through a pile of clothing to get out of bed in the morning? Or are there others like me? 😱

I usually let things get sort of cluttered and then I go on a mad cleaning spree to get everything back in order. The only thing I'm kind of OCD about is my desk oh and my shoes. For some reason I organize my shoes by type (pumps, sandals) and then by color. I bought a bigger computer and one of those L-shaped desks and I have the hardest time keeping my desk free of clutter.... it attracts everything!

My roommate is pretty messy.. the counters are covered with coffee spills and whatever she had for breakfast. She laughs because I can't just let it go until she gets back from class; I HAVE to clean it! I'm pretty sure I'm weird.

This is how I am. I let it pile during the "work week" and then clean when I have time on fri/sat/sun. I prefer to keep things clean, but my bro just makes messes and breaks the clean cycle.

Yeah my apartment is a train wreck, I have about 10 inches of papers/books/folders piled on my desk. About 5$ of change scattered about the floor, and of course the mountain of clothes. Our apartments living room is your standard college look, plates/bowls/cups everywhere, our halloween pumpkin was fermenting in the kitchen so eventually we tossed when pumpkin juice started leaking out, we recycle so there is a mountain of cereal and pizza boxes waiting to go out.

Two areas of life I am a neat freak in:
1) My teeth, I brush/floss religiously because I hate dentists so I like my trips to be as short as possible.
2) My Google Calendar

I wish I could pay someone to clean my room. 🙁 I'm pretty sure there's some undiscovered species living in there.

I second 1) and 2). Also, in all things med-school related, I'm a type-A freak. I have a color-coded xcel spreadsheet, a file folder with information for each school I interview at, a portfolio in which I keep all travel info, etc. I'm especially anal about the travel. It's funny because you can basically show up to an airport with nothing but an ID and as long as you have a general idea of what airline you're taking, you're fine.

I'm neat and organized. Even my junk pile as some sort of form and order to it.

I was raised by a German and an Irishwoman. And I've lived in China and Japan. Being disorganized and/or messy was never an option.

However, it is also my firm belief that life is not worth living if you can't make blanket forts and color superhero coloring books, so maybe twice a week you'll find my room a bit off-kilter because I've constructed an architectural masterpiece out of sheets, chairs, etc. and am holed up inside of it with colored pencils and a Batman book. (And oddly enough, those are the days when I'm the most popular person on my floor.)

But as my father taught me: doing things efficiently frees up more time to be lazy, and keeping things neat and easily accessible makes it easy to be efficient. Advice to take to heart. 😍

I have been trying to get organized since 6th grade. My chem lab looks like a bomb went off in it (though I do make sure that doesn't happen). My desk at home looks just as bad.

I'm kind of a neat freak I think? I never make my bed but I change my sheets every week. I organize everything like an OCD freak but I don't bother dusting stuff off. I keep my car interior clean but I never wash the outside.

I'm very visual, so I like to have my apartment look a certain way. Having an unmade bed makes me feel slobby. I can't concentrate if what is in my visual range is in disarray. I like cleaning but I hate laundry. Therefore, everything in my apartment is generally clean and orderly except my closet! Luckily it is a walk-in and I can just shut the door. Actually, cleaning my apt on the weekend is really enjoyable for me...

Somewhat confusingly, my apartment is usually a mess, but I hate that.

Currently, it's super clean and I hope to keep it that way. 😳

I'm definitely messy! My personality seems like I'm a neat little one, but not so much.
I try to be neat, and I AM organized but I'm a messy kind of organize if that makes any sense? I'm all over the place, but I know where things are and I have a specific places on where things need to be. I try and be neater but I guess I can't help myself, which is fine with me! =')

In one of my interviews it came up that I was living with my boyfriend and the interviewer asked me "what's something about you that really annoys your boyfriend?" I'm like "um...I'm the messiest person alive. [give too many examples]. I mean...uh...I'm neat when I need to be. Like at work. And with schoolwork?" (smacking myself because I basically talked for five minutes about how I'm a slob)

I actually put my clothes in color order in my closet, arranged from lightest to darkest...
I do this. White to blue to grey to black. Sometimes a grey will be really light and end up going behind a dark blue. It bothers me a little. 🙁 Sometimes I wish there was a way to make it flow ultra smoothly from left to right. 😳

If someone can admit to being a slob for 5 minutes, chances are that the rest of what they said was also genuine. That might have not been as bad as you might have thought it was.

I used to organize my closet by color then I realized I liked it better when I organized it by the type of clothing and the cut of closing (sleeveless vs not sleeveless, long vs short). I got really OCD one Christmas and actually requested completely-plastic hangers so I could change out all my hangers (that were a mix of metal, plastic, and metal/plastic hangers). The only metal/plastic hangers I have now are ones that hang up skirts, because I can't seem to find all plastic ones for those...

I'm generally a pretty neat person. When I get busy, my room starts to get a little messier (clothes start getting thrown on the floor, papers start to pile up), but I generally clean at least once a week to keep things tidy. I have a habit of having to clean right before any major studying needs to be done because I CAN'T study with a messy desk. It drives me crazy. Though...I never make my bed...couldn't get into that habit no matter how hard my mom tried 🙄 oh well.

I'm particularly neat-freakish about the kitchen. The stove has to be cleared of any spills and marks, the counters need to be clean, and I can't stand dishes that are in the sink for more than a day.

I had a roommate freshman year who was such a pig that I have been neat ever since. This should be a question on campus housing forms.

I guess I'm a neat freak. I only buy/use white sheets and towels so I can bleach them and kill all germs. I hate hate hate clutter, I love The Container Store, and I agree with the poster that only uses plastic hangers.

I used to live with girls that were so messy that they would leave cups of milk out on the counter for days until they solidified. It was a nightmare.

You can be the judge.

Everything is clean except my kitchen, where I let dirty dishes/silverware pile up until I run out of something.

I am the opposite. The kitchen cannot be dirty. It also cant be messy, because if it is, its that much less incentive to cook. I actually dont let the rest get that dirty or messy, but the kitchen must be clean. Nothing worse than a big pile of dirty dishes. Big, messy pile of books- not so bad, at least it wont start smelling.

haha thanks 😀.

I honestly nearly have a panic attack every time I go into the container store because it encompasses everything that I am not but would love to be. I am definitely the target of all their marketing....like everything in my life would be so much better if only I had the right adjustable hanging shelf and mail organizer.

Never gonna happen.

I have never actually heard of the Container Store so of course I had to go to the website 😍 They have lots of neat stuff! I don't think there's one anywhere near where I live though 🙁

You see the problem is that there is just not enough room in my apartment's closets/cabinets/drawers to hold all my wicked awesome stuff.

So the wicked awesome stuff does its own thing and I do mine. We try to stay out of each others way.

This is what I'm going to say next time my bf nags me about being messy. "Sorry, pookie, but my awesomeness just can't be told what to do."

I call it an organized mess.

This. To the untrained eye I am the most unorganized/messy person in the world. The second you ask me to get something out it will be out faster than it would take an organized person to wade through his/her alphabetized folders and binders.

I try to stay organized.. but more often than not I fail.... my boyfriend says before we moved in together my place was always clean when he came over... what he failed to realize was that I typically cleaned up prior to his arrival. Lol now he b*tches about my mess..

In general, my house is "less" of a disaster in the winter months because I can clean on weekends. However, during summer, my housework skills slip away because I spend every weekend at horse shows. Lol then the bf tells me that I need to start pulling my own weight because he's tired of cleaning up after me... he's a little OCD with cleanliness.. I keep telling him and when I am a doctor, he can be my house husband and all he has to do is clean and cook for me.

I turned down having a very good friend of mine come over tomorrow (Friday) night to see my new place, because the past few weeks my house has gotten worse and worse.

I am not a clean freak, but I actually can't wait until my finals are over so I can freaking clean my house!

CLEAN FREAK!!! My Mama is the most unbelievably organized, meticulous, clean woman I have ever met. I had to make my bed every morning and make sure my room was spotless on the daily! She is definitely over-the-top but it rubbed off on me and now... out of habit... I can't stand having a teeny little mess on my desk! I have to clean clean clean or it bugs and nags at me in my brain! I have to learn to cool it and let it go sometimes. A shirt on the floor isn't the end of the world! Any others who can comiserate with my cleaning obsession? 😱

I have OCD and I'm messy. How is this possible? My obsessions have nothing to do with orderliness.

I'm inclinded to clutter, but my fiance cleans with an iron fist. The trunk of my car is my last bastion of messiness...

I make piles and tend to organize my mess into fashionable and trendy motifs
