i'm just curious how many people only applying to d.o. programs and how many are applying to both. my only state program is an m.d. program, so i'm definitely applying to that and have added a few strong primary care type of schools to my amcas application. however, i really, really do prefer the d.o. philosophy to the m.d. philosophy, so i'm applying to more d.o. programs than m.d. programs.

anyway, i was just wondering what other people were doing.

I applied to only DO programs, but I applied last year to only allopathic programs (2 to be exact).

wow, only two -- you were brave. from the pre-allo board, you get the idea you need to apply to 20 schools to have a shot anywhere. i bet you saved a lot of money that way. 🙂

I am applying to both, mainly to maximize my chances of acceptance (somewhere) and to go to the best school that accepts me, regardless of the letters in the degree.

...

I'm applying to two M.D. schools in addition to 5 D.O. schools. 🙂

I applied wiiiide...click the link in my sig. I am only doing this once...And I want to be somewhere in August '06 so here we go. 🙂

I wasn't that brave, especially since I waited until December to send out my apps, needless to say you can see what happened! lol

I applied to 4 md schools and 7 do schools. I too prefer the do philosophy, but my desire to be a doctor extends past any initials that may follow my name!

I applied to 3 DO and no MD. No, it wasn't because my numbers were too low. I was right in line with the averages for the MD schools I considered. In the end the primary care focus, holistic philosophy, and the family-friendly atmostphere of the DO schools sealed the deal for me (I have a wife and kids).

Nothing wrong with applying to both - you might be surprised at your options. Having said that, I feel that being able to tell the DO interviewers that I applied to only DO schools because I wanted to be a DO and didn't apply to any MD schools helped get in.
