Well... I got a 21P on my MCAT and have a 3.5 GPA with lots of ECs... You guys think I can get in anywhere? I'm going to apply to all of the Osteopathic schools and hopefully one will be willing to take me! What are your thoughts??

Just want to say that your profile is a tad better than mine. Sci GPA 3.40, overall GPA 3.43, MCAT of 20Q. I am applying and taking my chances at all the osteopathic schools except for TCOM in Texas since I heard it's tough for out-of-stater especially with my numbers. It costs $100 apply there, also.

I just hope that we'll get in somewhere 🙂 .

To those of you who didn't do that well, APPLY EARLY. I can't stress how much this helps (along with a very strong personal statement, letters of recommendation and reasons on why you would have gone D.O. even with a better MCAT). APPLY NOW.

The "P" is pretty good? I think you might be able to. However, there are probably so many variables it is impossible to tell. It could be something lame like you just finishing a bachelors, only 21/22 yrs....blah and them thinking you would be a great reapplicant because you're young. (just an example...I've no idea how old you are)

What was the break down of your score? was it consistent 7's or others?

Verbal-8
Pscience-6
Bscience-7

Its soooo annoying! I got two 27's on my practice tests!!!

Let me know how it turns out...I am in the same boat.

I know people accepted with those stats. Apply to as many places as possible.

Since posting this in June this summer, I have been accepted to three schools and waitlisted at a school with a couple more interviews to go!! I'm amazed at how big a difference my EC's have made in my application, and put me ahead of people with much better "stats" as me... It seems, from my experience, that what you've done often counts as much as your MCAT! Good for me I guess 🙂

Which 3 SCHOOLS?

I applied/completed my apps to 6 schools, got 5 interviews (declined one), 4 acceptances, and withdrew my app from the other school that I hadn't heard from.

I got in to LECOM-PA, VCOM, KCUMB, and PCSOM. Im accepting my seat a KCUMB!!

And look where we are now FutureDocDO!!! lol, funny what can happen to people in a matter of months, now we both have the same decision! And a damn good one at that! 😎

This is so true and apply them early. You never know if that score of 20 is good enough to get in. I received a rejection from KCOM with 29P and 3.7. So the schools look more than numbers.

Disadvantage as to how many schools you can afford to apply??

No, to determine if you are eligible for disadvantaged status as an applicant, the requirements are listed on the AACOMAS instructions. If you come from/grew up socioeconomically disadvantaged (government assistance, etc) you can check it, and also if you come from a rural, underserved area (I think) to be classified as "disadvantaged."

I just found out today that I got accepted to VCOM with a 21 MCAT and a 3.16 GPA. I do have lots of EC's a great recommendations but if I can do it than you deffinitly can. Keep your head up. This was my second year applying so if it does not happen for you this year than just try again

Yeah, I applied medically disadvantaged because I come from a rural, underserved area...not sure that it will make a difference though. My advisor encouraged me to do it.

No kidding! I remembered I was so nervous about my chances and, like most SDNers, I posted a lot of what are my chances questions. Can't believe we're in a position to be able to choose! 👍

I am a military child so I am not really from anywhere but I spent all 4 years of high school in VA and I went to undergrad in Washington state. I have always considered VA my home and am glad to be going back.
