"The day went like this. When I arrived at the school, I was handed a packet of information about the school and about the admissions process. A student showed me into the library where I sat and chatted with the other 6 applicants. About 15 minutes later, the Dean of Admissions greeted us and told us what to expect for the day. In addition, he told us that the applications this year were very competitive and that getting an interview was a good sign.
This was followed by a 30 minute chat with the Dean of the school. He talked to us about dentistry in Arizona, the curriculum at the school, the plans for the clinic and the campus, and the results from Part 1 of the boards.
Next, we all went into another room and participated in a group project with members of the admissions committee observing us.
When the group project was finished, we had a single interview composed of two members of the admissions committee, the dean of admissions, and one student. They asked philosophical, current event, and exploratory type questions. There were 6 current event questions each worth 1 point. The topics covered were world geography, current political leaders, historical political issues, and events that were currently happening in the news. Most of the applicants there that day only knew two of the answers at best.
After the interview, which lasted 25 minutes, we each wrote an essay. The essay was graded with a maximum of 20 points being awarded for punctuation, grammar, spelling, and content.
The last part of the interview day was a tour of the school and a farewell by the dean of admissions. Overall, it was good experience."
