Is anyone on here applying to Arkansas State University DPT program this cycle? I am wondering about what will make a good admission score with the new admissions criteria. Per their website I think I have about 84/100 points.

Also wondering if there are any UAMS NW applicants. I have an interview there in 2 days, but would like to talk with others that have applied.

Hi! I've also applied to UAMS and have an interview in 2 days! I'm anxious to see what kind of questions are asked in the interview. Also interested to see how I survive the winter weather this weekend....Good luck!
I've also applied to ASU, but I think your spanish proficiency will help your app's points!

I had my interview today with UAMS. You honestly should not worry. They really just ask questions about your personality and what you like to do.. It was not stressful, at all.

I'm at student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I pass the UAMS NW building every day. The only word of caution I'd give you about UAMS is that the DPT program is currently not accredited through CAPTE.

I copied this from their webpage for you: "Effective January 2014, UAMS has begun the pre-accreditation process. In March 2015, the program will submit an Application for Candidacy, which is the formal application required in the pre-accreditation stage. Submission of this document does not assure that the program will be granted Candidate for Accreditation status. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status is required prior to implementation of the professional phase of the program; therefore, no students may be enrolled in professional courses until Candidate for Accreditation status has been achieved. Further, though achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation."

Thus, it may or may not ultimately be accredited. Just food for thought!!!

Yeah that worried me at first. I actually asked during my interview if they see any possible problems in the completion of accreditation at the graduation of the first DPT class. They said that they don't have any worries, BUT there is a safety net for the students. If UAMS DPT is somehow not accredited, UAMS has partnered up with another university that will take the first graduating class of pt students into their own program. Which university this is, I have no idea- and I'm kicking myself for not asking.

I was totally questioning the program because of this, but I think it's great that there is a safety net in case it doesn't fully go through. Thank you for your concern and letting us know about it, though! Stay warm up there!

I had wondered that, too. I figure that because this is UAMS, there will probably be no issues in accreditation. But, you never know. Great to hear about the "safety net".

Didn't they say we should hear something this week? The waiting is the hardest part of the whole process 😛

My interviewer on Saturday said by "the end of next week"- By that, I'm guessing it's Friday? SO NERVE-RACKING!!! But I'm hoping it's this Friday!

Oh that's great! I honestly had not heard of the safety net and that makes everything better. I'm glad and I wish youguys good luck. I'm sure you're going to get in!!

Thanks! Are you planning to do Physical Therapy after your undergraduate work? From the tour, it appeared that the program at Fayetteville is going to be a fantastic program, with many perks over other programs in the state. However, Arkansas State University is much cheaper, and offers assistantships for the second and third year students, which waives tuition entirely. Just some things to consider!

UAMS called this morning! Accepted!! I'm so excited guys!

How did you like to program? Could you tell more about your experience? I was thinking of applying the next admissions cycle.

Do you mind posting your stats too.

Also, yes I am planning to do physical therapy when I graduate 🙂 I'm open to going anywhere. I'll be graduating in May 2017! Have you officially decided where to go?

Hi! I'm in the same boat as you! I was also accepted into UAMS and ASU and have to decide pretty soon where I plan to go. I was wondering which way you were leaning and and why (if it's too personal then you don't have to say!). I just wanted to get someone's opinion who was having to make the same decision as me. I keep on waffling between the two choices and it's driving me insane. I loved what I saw at UAMS and Fayetteville is great, but accreditation is a bit worrisome. And of course ASU is so much cheaper... As of this moment, it seems more logical for me to go to ASU, probably less debt for me in the future, but I really enjoyed everything I saw at UAMS. It's such a hard decision to make.

If Fayetteville were the same cost, I would probably go there, primarily because it is closer to my home, but also from the visit. I prefer the way their curriculum is structured (I think 😛) and I really want to do the Spanish for PT's elective. Way less mosquitos in Summer, too (I lived in Jonesboro the last two years, and holy cannoli!!).

On the other hand, I am familiar with the Jonesboro area and school, and I have no doubt there program is a good one. They have graduated students who score perfect on the boards (one last year I know of, for sure). They are more established and already accredited (though I highly doubt UAMS will have any issue with this).

Unless I can find some way to negate a good portion of the cost difference in the next couple days (I'm going to call and ask Fayetteville what types of scholarships the PT students will be eligible for and how many will receive them), I'm going to have to stick with Jonesboro. I honestly was hoping to only be accepted into one, so that I wouldn't have to choose! I'm going to give myself a few more days to mull it over.

Thanks for your reply!
I agree, I was hoping only one would accept me! Choosing is so difficult. My line of thinking is the same as yours. I think I'm also going to have to choose ASU. I'm from the Jonesboro area, so living expenses wouldn't be as bad for me compared to the estimated cost of living in Fayetteville. That, on top of the difference in the cost of the program, just makes ASU the better contender for me. It's a bit upsetting because I would have loved to be a part of UAMS' DPT program, but money is just a huge factor. This might be of use to you, I found this <link> while I was researching on their website! It's a list of scholarships available to students in the College of Health Professions. I don't think it mentions the number of recipients though.
Whichever place you end up choosing, I hope you're happy with the choice! And if you end up going to ASU, I'll probably see you there 🙂
