Hey y'all, I just finished my sophomore year of undergrad and have been doing a lot of research on The army baylor DPT program because I have wanted to be in the army for most of my life and love PT. My gpa right now is a 3.73 but I know I can get it higher (just had a rocky first year of college). I'm taking the GRE at the end of July so I'm not sure what my score will be on that but I have been studying like crazy for it. My dad was in the army for 22 years before he was medically retired (he was a SGM) and declared 100% disabled and both of my older brothers joined as well. We have an army family and it's really all I've ever known. I miss it more than anything which is why I'm asking for any advice possible! I'm more than willing to put in the hard work but any pointers about getting accepted, average stats of a person accepted, average number of observation hours, the application process, the interview, etc. would be greatly appreciated!!
Also, if any current students could explain what a typical day consists of and anything else about what the program is like, that'd be AMAZING!
Thanks in advance!!

Recommend moving this post over to the pre PT forum. There are quite a few people who will be able to help you out there.

As a veteran I encourage you to also consider other health careers if your first love is the army and second love is PT. Aside from Baylor (extremely competitive school) there are not other sure ways to end up as a pt in the military. They don't need PTs right now. However, the army is desperate for other health professionals including doctors, PAs, dentists.

Or, if PT is what you want to do I think you also need a plan B for if you don't get into Baylor. Are you still ok being a civilian PT?

I would be fine with being a civilian PT, I'd just greatly prefer the army! My plan is to apply to other PT schools and if I get accepted go to one for a year before applying to baylor again. I'm hoping enough observation hours and a good GRE score will be enough. But I will also be able to get letters of recommendation from very high-ranked army medical veterans since I've known most of them since I was 5 or 6.

I know one piece is to get some observation hours at a military clinic. You can start doing that now.

I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if my stats are good enough to get in.. I applied beginning of September. Just had an interview with baylor and it went over the time limit, we talked for 52 minutes. I feel good about it, but I'm not sure if my stats are enough.
3.89 GPA
1000 observation hours in four different settings

Those numbers look pretty good. What was your GRE if you don't mind me asking? I have a thread dedicated to this on the Pre-PT forum that already covers this and may give you a bit more info.

My gre score wasn't as good as I hoped for, it is a 309. Thanks scrawny guy for the info, I think I've read just about every forum on here about baylor haha

Your GRE is slightly slower than last year's class, but I think your GPA is higher. Hopefully they balance out. You have a lot of observation time in various settings, too, which should play on your favor. Were you able to get hours in a military setting or are you prior service? Those both seem to help as well.

No I haven't. I wasn't able to get into a clinic cause I was no longer in college. Do you know how many packets get sent to the board? Or what the acceptance rate is?

I think they were expecting around 500 packets this year. Of course some of those may be from people who aren't qualified. The last word I got from my recruiter was 100 packets are going to the board to compete for about 26 slots. I believe the AF generally get 2 slots each year and the Navy its 4 or so. The rest of the slots go to the Army. At least that's what they told me when I went to the tour. I think the makeup of the class changes a bit from year to year, but I think that's pretty much the pattern from year to year.
