Army-Baylor PT Program

So as far as I understand, the board has finished, and all our names are on one of three lists: accepted, OML, denied. We could find out as early as next week (hopefully). Is this what everyone else understands?
 
My best guess is between today and the 14th...more likely between 7th-14th though. But I also was told I probably should know before my other deposits are due on the 10th.
 
Just got the call from SFC Manguil...OML. Congrats to everyone selected. Here's to next year!

Hey! Did you get your call from CPT Cisco? I'm from Washington and am now thinking that all the calls went out for my region today and that I didn't get in?.

No for some reason I didn't really work with CPT Cisco; she passed me off to a more local recruiter pretty early in the process. I got the call from him. From what I have heard from previous years people don't start getting called until Thursday so I was surprised to hear today. It might have something to do with the fact that I have been bugging him so he was eager to tell me;
also I was his only applicant (obviously not the case with CPT Cisco). I don't think my situation has any implications for your status 🙂
 
Got the call from SGT Manguil and MAJ Najera yesterday, I've been accepted!!! Congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck to those still waiting. Looking forward to meeting my future classmates!

Hey Congratulations that is Awesome! I had a missed call from Maj Najera yesterday but I haven't been able to get back in touch. I'm so nervouse to hear the results

Oh yeah for sure, she said the wait list is pretty long this year > 20

I will definitely reapply next year too, hopefully with a much stronger GRE score!
 
Did she tell you your spot on the list or just that you're OML?

She said she won't know where I'm at on the wait list for about a month. She did say they had one person in the NE accepted off the waitlist last year though.

First of all congrats to all who were accepted!

I am applying next year. What Chemistry class did you all take? Is Introduction to Chemistry acceptable or should I stick to something like General Chemistry? I know all schools name their courses slightly different but most seem to have different levels of first year chem. courses.

I took gen chem 1 and gen chem 2. but thats just me and Im AF so i probably shouldnt be giving advice on army slots haha
but I went in with a
CGPA 3.80
PRGPA 3.75
GRE Verb 154 Math 155
and 200 + hours...inpatient outpatient spinal cord (all were either at the VA hospital or shadowing an AD PT)
I have a bunch of other volunteer hours and other stuff that i put into my CV to make it pretty strong.
 
I just got a call today that I am very high on the wait list...has anyone heard word of someone not accepting their spot? I was told I will be called next week with a final answer..

I declined my spot two weeks ago. Hope you hear some good news!
 
In case anyone hasn't received this information yet, here are the averages of those accepted for this cycle:

Interview score: 2.39
Pre-req GPA: 3.78
Overall GPA: 3.7
GRE averages: Q 155.7; V 157.6; Analytical Writing: 4.1

It had to have been so very close for me. Congrats to all those accepted.

At the end of that (very long) process, I just had too many doubts. These were small things that came up mostly toward the end of the process, but adding them together, I felt uncomfortable accepting the spot. I knew there would be people on the OML that were just waiting for that call, and since I didn't feel 100%, I declined. I realize it's a vague answer--in the end I felt that the lifestyle and the environment wasn't the correct fit for my personality, and I couldn't force myself into that mold. It seems like a great program, and I have only respect for those who administer it and for those of you who will attend. Best of luck!

I understand and respect that. Thanks and best of luck to you wherever you decide to go. I'm sure you have many offers. I'm hoping to be able to strengthen my packet and be accepted this upcoming year. I'd leave the school I've accepted admission to in a heartbeat. I love the army and want to be a physical therapist, so it's the perfect situation for me if it works out.
 
For those who were not accepted, are you going to head elsewhere or are you going to wait and apply next year? I'm applying for the next cycle. My wife wants me to apply to several schools as a backup, but I REALLY want to go to this program. I think I would rather wait a year than attend a school that I'm not very passionate about. Curious if anyone else is in the same boat.
 
I only applied to 3 schools because I know I want to be at Army Baylor. I didn't want to put all of my eggs in one basket, but didn't know how I'd feel about actually attending another program. Surprisingly I'm extremely anxious and excited about starting in the fall, even though it isn't Army Baylor. I've been working as a DA civilian for the past 6 years, so for me it was progress in HR as a career or move on. I am continuing to do observation hours and plan to retake the GRE next month as I plan to reapply this cycle.
 
Hopefully we'll be classmates next year. I just ETS'ed last month (I was AGR) to concentrate on school and observation hours full time. My overall GPA is a little above the average of last year's class but I'm just starting the science pre-reqs this summer (all of the other prereqs are done). I'm taking the GRE at the beginning of Sept as well so I still have a long way to go. I'm actually thinking about waiting until the following year. I haven't quite decided yet.
 
I made the wait-list for this year but I wasn't even in the top 30 which was a little discouraging but I know this is what I want to do so I will definitely be reapplying for the next cycle, hopefully with a much stronger GRE. I was also accepted into another program but I'm seriously considering declining because I know I really want to be a military PT. After talking to several Army PT's, including my interviewer, I also discovered that the military only highers a small handful of PT's each year outside of Baylor, which means if you want to joint the military and serve as a Physical Therapist, Baylor is your best chance.

I am OML - don't know my spot. My wife and I are looking forward to starting a family, so completing PT school quickly is key. So I will be attending ISU in the fall. While I am sure I could improve my application and apply next year, I just don't have the time to wait another year.

Good advice. My wife keeps telling me that I can always do a civilian program then join as a PT. I keep telling her that Army-Baylor is the way to go, even if it means waiting.
 
I am currently working on my pre-requisites so that I can apply to Baylor's Physical Therapy Program next year. I am an Active Duty Air Force member so I find completing the requirements very difficult. Accepted Active Duty applicants, how did you manage everything (observation hours, classes, deployments, etc)? What were you allowed to do during the observation hours?

I ended up having to get out of the Army completely this past May to complete everything. When I initially told my command that I was thinking about getting out to finish my requirements they talked me into sticking around. They told me they would give me time off for classes, observation hours, etc. That lasted for about a month. As you know the mission comes first and as soon as something came up my stuff got pushed to the back burner. Over the course of 6 months I was able to get only a handful of hours and I was never able to take a science class w/ lab ( I already have my Bachelor's degree). I quickly saw that my priorities were not in line with theirs. The Army Baylor program is extremely competitive and I realized that I needed to be 100% focused on the program to get in. After a long talk with my then fiancee I decided to get out to complete my classes and rack up observation hours. It's only been a couple of months but I think I made the right decision. I now go to school full time while also completing an internship at a neuro rehab hospital. By the end of the fall I will have all but a couple classes completed, as well as more than 500 observation hours. In the spring term I am trying to hook up a VA work study at the local Air Force base which would give me at least 200 more hours. It hasn't been easy by any means. My income consists of my post 9/11 GI Bill and a small stipend I get from the organization that sponsors my internship (Mission Continues). I also have a good chunk of savings I accumulated on my last deployment. I had to cut back on some expenses but I'm not starving by any means. Like I said earlier, it was a tough decision but I have no regrets.

Does anyone accepted for the 2014 year have any hard stats on the accepted class? From what I've read on here and been told by the program, the average accepted GRE was a 314 and average accepted pre req GPA was a 3.7 but I'm curious if anyone knows what the range and median was for those GRE scores especially? i.e. what was the lowest GRE score accepted and what was the highest? Of the GRE scores that were below average did the applicants make it up with observation hours, special circumstances, etc? I'm also curious as to how many applicants had previous military experience and what the average volunteer hours were at time of application? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I didn't apply that year. I felt like my application would've have been too rushed so I held off and applied this year. My application, interview, etc. are done so now I'm just waiting on the board to convene next month.

Good luck! I had to redirect my career motives since they changed the pre-req guidelines. I had some online classes. It sucked because they barred online labs. However, was taking an online A&P lab and had a lab kit that contained a pig fetus, sheep's brain, cow's eye, owl pellet, as well as a few other A&P items. The assignments were intense. I felt like I was doing the best that I could considering the fact that I am serving overseas and don't have any sciences classes nearby. Such is life.....
