I am a 3rd year trying to decide between pursuing otolaryngology vs general surgery. I have currently signed up for my 2 ADTs in otolaryngology because I thought I was 100% on this field. However, I think I would only be happy doing head and neck cancer or facial plastics/reconstructive surgery and maybe peds. I think I am also biased because my institution has a very strong Head and Neck cancer program and anyone would want to come here for residency/fellowships.

-Would anyone like to share their experiences with ENT in the Army?
-What roles do ENT play when they are down range?
-I want to be a surgeon first, so do Army ENT's have trouble filling the ORs?
-Anyone want to shed light on the programs? I heard the strongest programs were Tripler and Madigan.

My gut feeling is that maybe I should pursue general surgery because I can decide later whether I want to specialize in trauma/critical care, surgical oncology, plastics/ reconstructive, or cardiothoracic (all specific interests of mine). I am having a hard time with this major life decision and would appreciate any feedback if possible. Thanks for your time.
