For what? Wouldn't the question be better answered if you laid out what MOS you are interested in (and officer vs. enlisted)? The answer will drastically affect the potential responses (though be aware that there are probably few on this site with such specific knowledge to answer your question definitively).

I just assumed that the forum "Physician / Resident Forums [ MD / DO ] > Military Medicine" took care of the "for what?" and the "officer vs. enlisted". Thanks for the link, but the page boils down to a generic link to "contact the recruiter". The actual state NG website wasn't very helpful either. I'm really just trying to find out if anyone is from the area and has any specific info on medical units in the vicinity and which ones might be preferable to others and why.

I wouldn't assume that. We have more than a few enlisted and non-medical National Guardsmen who are in undergrad considering HPSP and/or medical school, are interested in the National Guard ASR program, or are drilling in med school itself in a variety of MOS's.
No clue on NJ. Hope someone else is able to help you, but I don't know any MA NG folks offhand.
I don't know much, but I did grow up in Springfield. Westover AFB (Chicopee) is decent sized and has an Army (I assume NG, because there are no active units there) presence.
