I'm a MSIV on HPSP scholarship, and I'm wondering how my medical record is going to affect me when match time comes around. I have a psych history and am currently on medication. Are the selection boards going to be able to see my health record? I have disclosed everything to the Army as required, and they've told me I'm on a "trial of duty" so I'm sure there is documentation somewhere that they could get access to.
Meanwhile, for next year, would it be wise for me to go to a psychiatrist outside of the Army for my meds, even if I have to pay out of pocket?
Thanks!

Your medical record is not part of the GME selection process. If you are medically cleared by Big Army (meaning HPSP program), you need not disclose medical issues to program directors and the HPSP folks should not either. I can't speak for Army, but I know it would not happen in the Navy. You do not need to seek outside care for your treatment.

My advice to you (and something you should discuss with your mental health provider) is to consider the trials and tribulations of the specialty you wish to enter and if you can adjust to the mental and emotional demands of that specialty. I am by no means saying you are not a good fit. Just try to give it an objective assesment. It would be a shame for you to enter and discover you are actually a bad fit.
