Somebody else will have to speak about the quality of the rotation, etc.

However, I really like Germany. Landstuhl is cool. Neat castle right above the town.

I wouldn't want to do a rotation there. If they're as much work as I've heard, I wouldn't want to deal with having to also deal with being out of the country. Hopefully you'd be living on base, but if not, transportation around Landstuhl has been a problem for me in the past. You'll get plenty of chances for travel in the military.

Student Handbook, section 4.2.b.(5)
"ADT tours overseas (Europe, Korea, Panama, etc) and ADT during the month of December at Tripler Army Medical Center are not authorized."

Don't know if they're sticking to that or not.

WHat sutdent handbook is that? HPSP? And how could you do a tour in Europe "at Tripler" (Tripler is in Hawaii).

Right now there is a 4th year sub-I from the department of surgery at Landstuhl -

SICU sub-internship, 2 students per month, at Landstuhl, by special arrangement. High demand, the program filled up quickly with interested students. Previous people who went there said it was great.

Expect it to last only as long as casualties are coming back from OIF & OEF.

Yeah I know where Tripler is...it says ADT in Europe is not allowed, AND ADT in Hawaii _during the month of December_.

Ah, OK.

Also, the reason I asked about whether that's the HPSP manual, is because ADT is different than TDY. HPSP students who are Active Duty for Training (ADT) get different kinds of orders than USUHS students, who are already on active duty, and simply receive orders for Temporary DutY (TDY).

Different beasts entirely.

The purpose of the month of December exclusion may be just trying to avoid giving someone a free trip during Christmas? 😉

Regardless, USUHS students regularly go to Mexico, South America, and Europe during 4th year rotations. Probably Asia as well (I think the Navy still has a PM research station somewhere out there). Not all of them, certainly (I don't plan to) but the option is there.
