If you join as a resident or beyond, I believe they provide the same benefits. They have "strap" program which gives you $2k/month. Also loan repayment but that's for a separate time commitment. But they differ in that if you join as a medical student, then only the army offers mdssp which is again $2k/month in exchange for a service commitment. AirNg does not offer this, but some states offer some kind of stipend.
I also recently learned about Navy Reserve. I wonder how it stacks up against army/air? Here is a page http://www.navyreserve.com/careers/health-care/medical-service-corps/ Here it says that you can get an analog of mdssp if you are any type of graduate student. And on another page they provide the same $2k stipend for residents. And they also say that you can do "flexitraining" even as an attending. So for example if you are supposed to do 12weekends/year and 2weeks/yr you could choose instead to just work at some hospital for 12 days in a row instead of coming in once a month?
Also I wonder if as a reservist you could become a naval flight surgeon??
And another question, if you do army ng and you happen to join a unit that has army divers (the one in corpus christi), would you be able to try out and eventually attend their diving course even if you have no intention of being anything other than a doctor?
