Hey guys,

I'm confused as to why aromatic rings are electron donators but aromatic rings also help increase acidity? Don't they contradict each other? By donating electrons, should it decrease stability of a -minus charge and therefore decrease overall acidity?

I believe it is because the aromaticity causes resonance (stability) which allows the acidic proton to leave more readily. Or something along those lines lol.

The aromatic ring will add resonance stabilization to the anion, which will increase acidity. Hope this helps.
