I am getting a little worried looking at other threads and I'm just looking for some opinions!
I graduated with a studio art degree because I didn't decide until junior year i wanted to go to dental school. my overall gpa is 3.84 and science 3.66. I took all my science prereqs and took my dat for the first time in june, but didn't do so hot...
bio 15
chem 16
orgo 16
rc 23
qr 13 eek!

ts 15
so i signed up to retake it october 1st. my applications were mailed july 24th and all secondary money is in. I also have 6 years of working in a dental office and shadowing

just curious as to what you guys think! thanks 🙂

you got a good gpa. good idea to retake the dat. I think you got a shot just improve the dat score. good luck!

just curious, which schools did you apply to?

Don't easily give up. You need an artistic mindset in dentistry anyway.

thanks for the encouragement! i applied to ten schools:
tufts
bu
nyu
case
uconn
pittsburgh
upenn
maryland
new jersey
temple

my top two are tufts and bu...my dad is an alum from tufts dental so i don't know if that will help at all

if you can nail the DAT the second time around, I think your art degree is a major plus. Your science GPA shows you know science and obviously you are artistic, which is a major aspect of dentistry and will also set you apart from the crowd.

Good luck!

thank you! I am very scared for my test...I am horrible with standardized testing but will be studying the next month and a half like crazy.
the test was a lot more detailed than I thought it was and I think that was my downfall on the last test and math of course

Good luck, and if you put enough hard work into it, you'll get there sooner or later. Maybe I'll see you at the interviews at Pitt later this year, hehe. Just do your best, that's what counts. And dental Adcoms love art people, dentistry has such a large artistic component to it.
