I am a California resident, recently decided to pursue medical school so I have only completed bio 1 and stats 1.

I have been in college since 2005, I am a community college transfer to CSU. I have an AA in English literature and am finishing up a BA in Anthropology.

I have 2 options:

Either finish up my degree this semester and apply for post-baccs in the spring/summer 2011

Or continue on at the CSU completing the pre-reqs.

I have gotten the impression that my undergraduate institution will make it impossible for me to attend a medical school in California, or be competitive in the general sense as well so I am trying to explore other options.

Is it possible to get into the post-bacc at USC, Mills or Scripps coming from a CSU? I don't see the point in attending a post-bacc at a Cal State Univ seeing as how thats what is limiting me in the first place.

Here is my current rundown:

GPA 3.59

hospital volunteer (just started this year)
presented a paper at a local conference
anthropological society member since fall 08, running for president for the upcoming term
AMSA pre-med member
Phi Kappa Phi
job in health care related state agency since jan 09 (some very in-depth experiences, working with clinical staff and insurance, don't want to go into much more detail but I feel my experiences here will be a big part of my PS and my overall reason for going in to medicine)
planning on shadowing docs this summer and getting into some other kind of community service

any tips or help is greatly appreciated.

You can contact the postbac programs and see if they will let you enroll since you've taken a few of the prereqs. I think you'd be borderline competitive at Scripps if you can get a decent score on the GRE.

I'd file this with the California bias against Asians and the California requirement that you be a first author in a non-Elsevier pub.

Isn't true. All these myths arise from the sheer numbers of applicants to UCs that necessarily result in a huge number of rejections.

Get a competitive GPA (3.7+ in CA), get a competitive MCAT (32+), fill out your app with compelling extra curriculars, get powerful letters of recommendation, be really interesting to interview. And nobody will question your CSU transcript.

Best of luck to you.
