To be honest, med school is already ~20-25,000/semester. Just call your $500 conference attendance a necessary cost for your education (which, increasingly, research is), accept it, and move on.
My favorite moment from this past year was arguing with an attending at an Ivory tower institution that there really are patients that aren't amenable to video laryngoscopy and no, it shouldn't be the standard method for laryngoscopy.

Yeah, that wasn't this. It was "should be the standard." And then when discussing patients who weren't amenable to be video laryngoscopy (specifically talking about the Glidescope) I was told they aren't amenable to direct laryngoscopy either. WTF?
