I am joining the ASA as a med student. The form says "annual dues of $10 must accompany application." Does anyone know if they accept cash or if they need a check, and if so who to make the check out to? Could not find answer easily on their website.

Go to this page http://www.asahq.org/joinASA.htm

and download the Student application, fill it up and send it with the fees to the address on the application.

I was thinking of joining the ASA as a med student too, but I'm a little fuzzy on what the benefits (aside from a journal subscription) would be? what do you guys get from being in the ASA?

They are aching for students to participate in the Med Student Component of the ASA at the national level. Putting something like that on your resume would be pretty sweet.

You will also get the newsletter which will keep you up to date on the political issues in the field. Trust me, it is an awesome value. You will probably get on a couple of other mailing lists so that you know when new editions of texts are coming out. If you get on the email list, you will be notified of issues that arise for which you may need to get involved politically. There are many smaller benefits, but the journal alone is worth well over ten times the $10 fee they charge. The $10 probably barely covers postage for all of the mailings.

To answer your original question - I just made my check out to "ASA" and sent the thing in.

For students out there, joining ASA is another good way to get your name in front of your Dept. Chair early-on, as they have to sign your form to approve your membership. Consider joining sooner rather than later - as the point was made, the value FAR exceeds the paltry $10 fee.
