Has anyone seen the new PR ADs previewed in the ASA newsletter.

The one for OB anesthesiologists says that they "use their hundreds of hours for training to help mothers..."
HUNDREDS of hours? how about thousands of hours!!!

The one about Pain anesthesiologists says that they are putting "hours of training to help people manage pain..."
HOURS? may as well say that they use their minutes of training. it's YEARS of training.

i mean at a politically critical time like this, in ads made to underline the extensive nature of PHYSICIAN anesthesiologist training how can the ASA drop the ball on that very point!

I would suggest writing them an email and voicing displeasure. We, as ASA members and contributors to their PAC, deserve better.

You're right man. I don't know when/where these ads will be placed. Have YOU already contacted them? I'll back you up and shoot an email as well. 👍

ASA press room: [email protected]
or (847) 825-5586.

yah let's get on this ASAP. we need to contact them. Good catch.

Good job guys. I'll send 'em an email tomorrow, or may even call them Monday.

Glaring statistical errors aside...

I do like the new PR campaign. I think the ECG thing and the "lifeline" thing are smart and evocative.

On the other hand...
The ASA Communications Director Dawn Glossa addressed the med student delegation at the ASA meeting when they were unveiling this whole campaign. I remember her tone as being kinda...hapless, along the lines of "this is our new campaign, I'm not quite sure what the ECG means but this is what 'they' decided would be a good campaign." I wasn't sure who "they" was then, and I still don't now. Not very confidence-instilling.

I still have no idea why they chose the EKG!
This is not the American society of telemetry nurses.

I think if you look at it from the POV of the lay public, the ECG tracing is a very recognizable symbol associated with "life hanging in the balance," so I think it gets a good message across.
