Hi guys,
I'm a soon to be graduate who is looking to apply to a postbacc program, as I haven't yet taken any of the prereqs for med school. I did reasonably well in university, but I still don't have any legitimate volunteering experience. I did train to be a volunteer in the ED as part of a university program last Winter, and was supposed to start volunteering this Spring, but because of COVID, I didn't have a chance to do anything. I also did at one point get my EMT certification, but never ended up working as an EMT (due to reasons i don't really want to get into here). As a result, I can say that I have no actual clinical experience.
I was wondering if, despite this, I would still have a chance at getting into the more highly rated formal postbacc programs, like Bryn Mawr, Goucher, Mills, Scripps, or John's Hopkins. I went to a top 5 uni, and majored in Cognitive Science, ending up with a GPA around 3.7, which I think would be acceptable, but I am still worried about my lack of volunteer experience. From what I've read on the forums, to get into these programs, they usually want direct experience of some sort to prove that you have a legitimate interest.
If it would still be difficult for me to get in, then are there any alternatives? Would there be any DIY programs that I would still be competitive for? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
