I hate to disappoint you but your mom clinical volunteering does not show any competency in service orientation. It does a great job showing your mastery of engineering or science principles instead. But with no or few service orientation activities showing you can be comfortable in a humble way to alleviate distress, your application can be screened out at many medical schools.

I don't know if engineering- focused programs like Texas A&M EnMed or Carle will overlook this, but in a pool where most others have something, it will be a challenge to stand out here.

PS, FWIW, you have to report those IAs... I think most will review it and not consider it as something to worry about, but you have to disclose what you should. Make sure the conduct offices help you craft this disclosure statement.

My application will get screened out?? I have so much clinical volunteering doing service I thought. In addition I have 250 hours doing service with special needs children. I am so confused - you think I am just going to get screened out by all of these schools??

It has happened for many adcoms I have served with over the years. No doubt it will continue depending on the screening criteria each school has adopted.

We say this to help you understand the process and the competitiveness of the pool. We work on probability and the patterns we see. It's always possible you won't get screened out by the endgame is getting an offer. We don't have your application to be more certain, and we only go with what you disclose.

If you were going for a masters in biomedical engineering, I think you look great. You have a lot accomplished that I think many graduate programs may want to gauge more of your interest as an engineer to help people using your experience and what you know.

I am so confused I have 500 hours dedicated to volunteering for vulnerable patient populations from just one organization. I will get screened out for this???? I am so confused

How have you stretched beyond your comfort zone? Again, just reading what your submitted here, your activities with vulnerable populations comes from a position as an expert (tennis, engineering). The activities are as important as the communities you impact.

Apply to all your TMDSAS schools and you should receive several interviews. OOS MD schools interview few Texas applicants because they know from years of experience that Texas applicants will attend a Texas school. For AMCAS schools you could try TCU, Tulane, Carle Illinois and Vanderbilt
