Hi, I am oos for both schools.

School 1: ASDOH - OOS
Pros:
  • Early clinicals (start in D2)
  • Extensive external rotations D4
  • Closer to home
  • P/F & Modular/block schedule
  • Small class size (around 78)
  • Rent is cheaper around the area
Cons:
  • Very hot in the summers
  • Private school, expensive tuition
  • Area doesn't have much to do
  • School is small
  • Not as high tech
School 2: Touro (NY/NM) - OOS
Pros:
  • High tech
  • Slightly cheaper tuition(~10k less each year)
  • Name has a better reputation
  • Closer to NYC so have more to do
  • Possibly good clinicals in New Mexico because there is a shortage of dentists there
Cons:
  • Even though tuition is cheap, COL is very high(especially the rent & transportation)
  • New Mexico program is pretty new so there are potential risks (current students don't know much anything about it)
  • Very big class size (~250)
  • Majority are hybrid to remote classes
  • Probably takes 20-40 mins to get to class everyday
School 3: MWU IL - OOS
Pros:

  • Known to be one of the best clinical school
  • Very high tech
  • Students and faculty were very welcoming and nice when visited
  • Although bigger class size, faculty to student ratio is still good 5:1
  • Nice area to live in (there's things to do around here)
  • Very clean and nice facility
  • Certificates in invisalign and laser
  • Students gets to place implants
Cons:
  • Bigger class size
  • Tuition slightly more expensive than ASDOH (~1k more each yr) & Touro (~11k more each yr)
  • Crazy weather in the winters (rain & snow) - never lived in the snow before
  • Cost of living is more expensive than ASDOH (especially rent)

Summary:
I was initially leaning towards MWU IL just because I was impressed by their clinicals, high tech equipment, and facilities during the tour. Also the students and faculties were very personable and nice when I got to talk with them. It wasn't snowing when I interviewed so I really liked the weather (I generally don't do well in the heat) but I know the weather can get really crazy over there and I don't know if the snow might be too much for me. For ASDOH, I really don't like how hot it gets in the summer but the clinical experience and the curriculum seem amazing. I also applied to Touro NM cohort because I wanted a good clinical experience but after talking to multiple current students and they don't know much about it, I'm not sure anymore.

Any input will be appreciated, thank you!!

Hi i'm a CA resident. Both schools are oos for me and I don't plan to practice in CA.

tough choice, because they are all expensive
from your plus/minus it sounds like mw-il will be the best choice
the other 2 have no big upsides and tons of downsides...

The places around mwu il are pretty expensive to rent. With that in mind and the tuition cost, I think it will be about 40k more than asdoh. Is that an amount I should consider?

look only at published total COA at each school and compare...

I never give weather a lot of weight. You don't like hot weather, but you've never lived in a snowy place. Just make sure the HVAC in your apartment and your student clinic space work.

I would pay attention to patient pools. You need practice, and the more patients you get, the more employable you become.

Cheapest COA. I'm unsure about each school's tendency to give significant financial aid, so assume you won't get anything before matriculation and work hard as a student to get scholarship money (or consider Armed Forces or NHSC options).

Where do you want to practice? Consider NHSC or HPSP options, especially if you want to do community dentistry or work with marginalized communities. You should get lots of practice in the schools on your list, especially Native Americans for Arizona and New Mexico campuses.
