ASDOH's secondary app has no word limit for the clinical and volunteering experiences sections. Does this mean we're allowed to write as much as we want???

I mean for most of the sections i have kept the word count very conservative. But for 2 of the sections i had word counts at about 500 (almost an essay), but thats only because i had over 200+ hrs into it and a lot of different experiences and activities within it.

I know ASDOH is one of the hardest schools to get into. They play heavy emphasis on community service and reject people with amazing stats all the time. I wanna make sure my secondary conveys my community exerpience.

Is there anyone else out there that has ever gotten an ASDOH interview and had the same issues with the word count as me???

any info is appreciated

I am currently working on my secondary for ASDOH and it states right after both prompts "(Please limit your response to 500 words or less. All information provided in this section must be the original work of the applicant and not from another author.)"

one of the essays i kept a little under 500, but since they dont stop you from going over i made my second essay about 700 words. i doubt they will sit there and count the words

yeah it says those prompts for the essays section, but im talking about the clinical and volunteering section. it doesnt say anything there

not to be a devil's advocate... but going over the 500 word limit is a blatant disregard for the instructions.

It may raise a red flag for not being able to follow directions.

Just my two cents.

To actually answer your question...I would take advantage of the space given to properly explain your experiences (because AADSAS simply didn't give us enough space). However, I wouldn't repeat anything if you are going to talk about it in your essays as well.

Do you have that much to write? Are you putting in more than 1 activity in each box? Are you writing it out in paragraph form instead of resume style?

I'm doing it paragraph style and not repeating anything i've already previously said. for example, this is an excerpt from one of my volunteer activities...

"Next semester I was director of Healing Animals. This division was dedicated to promoting service to animals. The places we volunteered at were mostly sanctuaries for formerly abused animals. Although this division was the most labor-intensive, it was also the most fun. At Mill Creek Retired Horse farm we groomed, cleaned, and fed each horse. At the Jungle Friends Monkey and Rooterville Pig sanctuaries my group performed jobs such as: lawn maintenance, cutting endless amount of vegetables, feeding the animals, and even creating habitats with irrigation systems from the ground up. Other areas of volunteering included: Alachua County Animal Services Dog Wash, Puppy Hill Adopt-A-Thon, and Gainesville Rabbit Rescue."

This is only a part of the description, the whole thing is 500 words.

The only reason this description is so long is because i was heavily involved in it for 5 semesters and each one was very different than the other. I didnt make all the sections this long, most of them are only a few sentences. Just 2 of them are pretty long.

any critiquing is appreciated

I think you should simplify. There is a lot of blah blah blah going on. I was bored after the first 4 sentences. All I see looking at the paragraph are animal names. Is this all with 1 organization?

I never got the secondary!!! When was your mailing date???

i thought it was already simplified enough. I mean i described:
-What division i led
-What the division aims for
-Some of the activities with specific examples

And yes this is all for one organization, but only the tip of it. My other paragraphs decribed the other things i did like: work with kids with disabilities, cancer organizations, etc.

oh and my mailing date was 7/30 but i received the app around 7/28 for some reason. what's your stats, they might have a cut-off requirement. but dont take anything i say too seriously, i really dont know

since the secondary had a spot for big essay questions after the clinical/volunteering section i kept that section brief and elaborated in the essays. i feel that telling them what ive gotten out of my volunteering is more important than just pages and pages of descriptions. and i tried to keep in mind that the people reading these things dont wanna read alot of crap that doesnt matter because they have so many applications to read.

thats just my opinion, if you wanna elaborate i think its your choice since there's no word limit
