ASDOH "Top Group" but no acceptance

Can someone who interviewed at ASDOH tell me what it would mean if I got a "Top Group" letter from ASDOH but no acceptance today?

at the interview they said they would divide the "top group" into 2 groups. the 1st group would get calls today and the other group would have to wait it out. the 2nd group is still better than their so called alternate list so there is still hope.

btw, you can add me to this party....top group but no call 👎

I'm in the same situation. This really makes things complicated, seeing how ASDOH is my top choice but I've been accepted to other schools.

Yeah I am in the same boat as well, but the storm may just pass. It is a blessing to be considered for such an incredible program and out of 4000!

We all have something that appealed to the school so keep that in mind. We would not have been given a top groups letter if that was not the case. ASDOH is my top choice for schools as it appeals to all my needs and desires for a dental education.

Do any of you know how many top group people were selected? We all still have a good chance. Keep your head up everyone and keep rowing your boat through the storm. We all will reach sunny days soon.

One dean told me that if this was your situation, call the school that you want to go to and tell them you want to go there but you received acceptances elsewhere and you have to make your decision soon, in other words tell them to hurry the heck up and make up their mind.

Add me to the list!!!! I'm on the tops group but no offer yet!! I've gotten offers from other schools but ASDOH is my top choice. I'll call them on Monday.

That sounds good. So I should do this towards the deadline to pay my deposits at other schools or can I do it sooner?

so when are they going to start letting us know? later in december? later in january?
 
What is the top group in particular? I could guess from the phrase that it is obviously something good but is it a program or something?

not a program. asdoh divides interviewees into top group, alternate, and rejected piles. for us in this thread, we've all already interviewed and recieved the top group letter. the people that got accepted today also recieved the top group letter, just not everyone in that pack got in yesterday.....and that is why us losers are consoleing each other, lol. its going to be a sad 1.5 months coming up!

That sucks. Then what's the point of telling you guys you're in the top group and getting you all worked up only to make you wait for what feels like a billion years? Great way to trigger panic attacks and temporary insanity if you ask me. Everyone should have just gotten letters if they were told they were in the top group. Regardless, I know you'll all be fine. 😕I am also in the top group, but didn't get accepted. ASDOH is my top choice and really hoping to hear something! Has anyone called and talked to them to let them know that they would really like to go to ASDOH to see what they said? if so, what was their response?
 
I too received the "Top Group" letter and haven't received an acceptance (yet---my fingers are crossed). I called Ms. Driving Hawk today and left a message but haven't been able to get ahold of anyone to ask what my current odds are or how long I should wait. Has anyone else had luck?
 
I'm not a mole with the AdCom or anything, but my year the next wave of acceptances went out just about as soon as the deposits came due (early January). I didn't get in until February or so...so...keep up hope.

I know it's gotta be hard to know you are in the "top group" and not have an acceptance in hand, but there are much worse situations to be in. Just ask the other 3900 people who applied and don't have that in their back pocket.

Best of luck to all the ASDOH hopefuls. Its crazy to think that I'll be gone before you get here...I'm getting too old for this.
 
I just got an email from Vicky saying that the Committee will meet again during mid-Jan. I think it will be the time for the second round. Anyone here last year got top group letter but no acceptance at the end????😕😕😕
 
Just called and they said about 100 pple from the first top tier group were accepted. Said those who were in the second tier top group have not been accepted yet and the next round goes out mid-Jan after they hear back from the 100 pple. Since they are still interviewing, they will continue to put people onto the first top tier group and those on the second tier will still have to wait. Sux for us second tiered pple, they also said to of course put down deposits at the other schools because she couldn't promise anything. Did anyone else call yet?

100?!?! their class size is only 60! doesn't seem like they are going to have to dip into the reserve pools (2nd tier top group and the waitlist) very much to fill their class. like other people have asked, were there ppl last year that were in the top group but never got in? REDSOX08 said before that last year everyone from the top group eventually got a call and a few from the waitlist. this was the first year they sent out letters but just wondering if anyone knew what happened last year.

I doubt it, man! during the interview, I was informed that they would send out the acceptance letter for 40 seats only...If they sent out 100 letters already, add people with top group but no acceptance, I think it is approximately 150 people in the top group so far. I dun no, but for me 150 people on the top group before Dec1 is ridiculous because they only interview 400 people for the whole cycle. Remember ! they will still interview more people for 20 seats left...so , it can't be 150 people in top group before Dec....It's just my thought! I might be wrong !😛

I mentioned something like this earlier in a thread several months ago. I think that ASDOH should not have said that you are in the top group unless they really mean that top = accepted. I believe that they also have an alternative group, but what's the point of having a top group if you are going to subdivide this into portions as well?

They should have just gone normal. I think now there are bound to be a lot of ill feelings in the top group people who did not get the anticipated good news.

I agree with shunwei 100%, it just adds a lot of unnecessary anxiety to those top group unaccepted people out there. They should have stuck to the 3 tier system: top group "aka accepted", alternate list, and rejected. This seemed like a poor --not to mention failed-- attempt at circumventing the Dec 1st deadline.

Having said that, I am still thoroughly impressed with ASDOH and its focus on community dentistry.
 
anyone know when they are accepting for the next round?

I called the first of the week and they told me they just sent out ten more invites so they did not wait until the 15th!!!😱

Do they only notify through mail or do they update aadsas/call?
 
They called for acceptance on Wednesday, the 9th.
 
I was from the top group, also just so you guys know i think they still have atleast 10-20 seats left.
 
I just spoke with a lady at ASDOH's admissions telling her I'd like an update from them before I sent another school my deposit. She said they sent out all their second round of acceptances last week and the next round should be in a month or so. She guessed that around 30 seats have been filled by now. I guess we just have to wait...

only 30?!!? 😱 well if this is true than that means 50% of the spots are still available. i didn't get a call/email/letter from them last week so i guess i'll have to wait until next month, boo
 
So are they notifying people by mail or email? Does that mean people who have been accepted second round has already received the mail/email stating their acceptance? Can anyone confirm? (I still haven't gotten anything..darn top group sham! 😡, JK Arizona I love you please accept me).

Just a heads up, I was in the "top group" at ASDOH as well, and still heard no word after I received acceptances from UB and OHSU.

Double check your AADSAS application for any supplemental material requests. Despite the fact that I preferred OHSU over ASDOH and decided to send in my acceptance, ASDOH never received my official DAT scores somehow, and despite the fact that I received a secondary and went to an interview in Mesa, they somehow never got my application fee. Make sure to check up on this, just my 2 cents.

I think that is just a glitch in the system. My supplemental material section now says the same thing, this change occured post interview and subsequent rejection that were updated on AADSAS prior to the change in supplemental material section.

no i called the office about that a few weeks ago. the receptionist told me that its just a glitch problem on AADSAS. she said that you would have never gotten an interview if you had not done any of the following: secondary, DAT scores, application fees. i have the same things listed under my supplemental part for ASDOH. thus if you recieved an interview and are still on the top group, you are all good to go in terms of having everything in. the only thing we have to do is wait for an acceptance. hope that clears some stuff up.
