I have just been accepted to Arizona Dental School on Tuesday. I have to send the first depost of $1000.00 by April 14th...I liked the school alot but I wish I could get in to UNLV. I am on an alternate list for UNLV and also or UCLA. I am however not sure where I stand on the waitlist. The deposit is just too much..!!!is any one else going to ASDOH? Do anyone think I have any chance for other schools???

Let me tell you, if you got in...GO! You'd be absolutely crazy not to! I applied late last year and I was on 3 alternate lists including UNLV, and I didn't get in any of them. At UNLV students already have their deposits in with another due in two months. Once they get these deposits, there isn't much of a likelihood that the list will move much. The point is you got in, and I better read tomorrow that you are sending that damn deposit in or I'll personally hunt you down and give you a kick in the ass! Congratulations on getting in, that's awesome. If you can't get any help from family etc., go to the bank and take out a loan if you have to. Point is if you really want to go to dental school you'll make it happen.

Werd... I second all of the above. You got into a solid school that is in the same geographical region as UNLV. Waitlists are just that; waiting around to end up not getting in at this stage of the game (I was on the UNLV list last year as well and didn't get in). Make the smart play and send in that deposit and buy some sunscreen!

As for knowing your position on the UNLV waitlist, you can call them and they will likely let you know if you are in the "top 10%", etc. Dr. Ancajas is very good at that.

1. It's late in the season, you're lucky to have gotten in anywhere at this point.

2. You got into a school that received over 3000 applications last year for 54 spots.

3. The deposit goes towards tuition.

4. Do you want to go to dental school or not? If you keep hesitating, you'll end up nowhere. This isn't as if you have 5 acceptances to choose from and it's the middle of December. It's approaching mid-April and you're on waitlists.

Congrats on your acceptance, and good luck with your decision! I would however suggest that if you are intent on going to dental school this year, it would be a wise move to not toss out an acceptance on the basis that you have been waitlisted somewhere else. I would say bite the bullet and pay the deposit. If you get into UNLV, well then you lost $1,000. If you don't, well then you'll be going to ASDOH, will graduate a year earlier than you would if you had to reapply next year and will ending up making $100,000+ during your first year of practice which I think more than makes up for the $1,000 loss! Just my opinion however.

Do you know if you were on their waitlist or they accepted you off the "yes" list? I'm waiting to see if I'm on the waitlist and haven't heard anything. Just wondering when to give up hope. I'm glad you've decided to put in your deposit. Good decision! Again, congrats!

bully, you should email Joyce Haynie to find out if you are on the waitlist. They completed the waitlist on Thursday, I believe, and they should let you know where you stand. I found out I am on the waitlist, which I guess is better than nothing. I really don't think there will be much movement, though. 🙁

Thanks for the info. I talked with Joyce a little over a week ago and didn't want to bug her, but I'll call Monday since I know the list is complete. Congrats at least on the list. Last year everyone on the waitlist got in, but it was a smaller list. I don't know how big it was. I heard it was 25 people this year. So good luck! Did she tell you where on the list you were?

a wait list is a wait list. one acceptance at ASDOH is better than 10 alternate spots at the top 10 dental schools (if there is such a thing as top 10). and like gavin said, the deposit is towards the tuition anyways. congrats

I have emailed Joyce almost 4 weeks ago and she told me I was on their top list but I guess I was also on the waitlist since I interviewed in mid january and haven't heard anything till April. So Don't lose hope I guess they inform applicants late so they an fill in their spots soon if someone decides not to come to ASDOH.
