I'm Asian!!!!!!! And I personlly know a lot of DOs and DO students who are Asian! I'm from Cali btw, so that might be why 🙂

wow.... never realized that... everytime i look for DO's to shadow in my area... I havent seen any that are asian.. lol...

yeah me too...

Wow, for foreign students, 37 out of 143 got accepted!!! That's really encouraging percentage. 🙂

I'm middle eastern! That's kinda Asian... right? I mean, same continent.

One of the DO's in my area that I'm going to call to ask for a shadowing position is asian (she's a plastic surgeon too!)

I just have to reply and I hate being an ass, but this has got to be the dumbest waste of bandwidth I have seen on SDN as of yet. It's akin to saying I'm the only black, white, yellow, brown, green etc trying to be a DO. Why does it matter? When statistically it's IMPOSSIBLE to be the only filipino asian in almost anything unless you're the filipino version Dede the Indonesian Tree man. It's like saying:

"lol just wondering... how many among you aspiring RICE EATERs out there are asians... lol... for some reason i think i am the only filipino (asian) thats trying to be a RICE EATER... lol"

Code:
private bool asian = true;
private bool PISSED_OFF = true;

...

public void sarcasmAlert() {
if(SDN_READERS(asian) == PISSED_OFF) {
   Print ("Sarcasm");
   Print ("I'm an asian BTW);
}

else {
   Print ("You will be the only asian DO")
}
}

...

Man, I gotta lay off the sugar...

Foreign most likely means Canadian. Almost all the "foreigners" accepted were Canadian. The asians accepted were mainly asians living in the US i believe. Of course thats not to say that the Canadians accepted arent asian (at my undergrad school, 80-90% of students in my science classes were asian and all aspiring pre-meds)

Maybe it's because I'm from California too, but there are a lot of asians/pacific islanders going into osteopathic medicine.

Taken straight from the Osteopathic Medical College Information Book, Western University's most recent first-year matriculants were: American Indian or Alaska Native: -1%, Asian/Pacific Islander: 43%, Black or African American: 0%, Hispanic/Latino: -1% White: 47%.

I'm not entirely sure what -1% means for some of those, but the self-reported asian/pacific islanders composed a pretty sizable chunk of the class.
