I'm going to start shadowing a DO starting next week. I plan on shadowing for a few weeks until I feel comfortable enough to ask for a letter. I was wondering, is it okay to ask for a letter if I'm not applying until the next cycle? (2014-2015) Does it look bad if my letter's about a year old by the time I apply? Thanks!

Your fine. Very few schools have a time frame requirement for when the letter was written. Since it is the year before you apply, you should not even have a problem with the schools that have a 1 year old letter policy.
