Honestly dude, I'm glad you made this decision.

It will feel better in the long run knowing that you earned your gpa.

word. i came from a similar family background and I understand that life is much harder when your parents earn barely enough to get by. I had to work 35+ hours a week while I was in college, and during the busiest time of the school year, I was lucky to get 3 hours of sleep. Quynh, good luck. I hope you get your grade changed.

my situation is slightly unfavorable. This whole semester, I had to work the maximum allowed hours for me (25 hours/week) so that I can help support my parents (my dad is now unemployed, and mom makes around 200/week, i make 150/week -- we are not on any government support, just me taking out loans now to help with the bills and rent payments) and so I could never go to office hours or discussions (I work or have class from 8-5 every weekday this semester). Secondly, not that it's anything important, but I have pretty severe motion sickness (I get dizzy just running and definitely have gotten really sick when I was little riding on a slow moving carosel) so taking dramamine does help put me to sleep when i'm on the plane, but i'm just feeling terrible when I wake up and get off. but, that has nothing to do with anything, and only time will tell from this point on. I had ask him if there was any extra credit thingy I could do, I would do it, so that is good. We'll see.

hey, i just found out one of my grades in a class is a B+, I got 92.86, and I needed a 93% to get an A-, basically, I was 1 point on the final from getting that A-!! I emailed the prof, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet, and I'm just worried. I told him that my performance was affected by jet lag the day before, and an organic chem final 30 minutes after this one was over. Plus, I am in the process of transferring into his department, and an A- would help me have a better chance of getting in. I DO know the material, it was just bad luck that I was 1 point short of that A-. how have ppl successfully convinced their profs. to pump up their grades etc? thanks. 🙁

Firstly, some schools are harder than others so 80% might be warranted. Secondly, this is a psych class so its far from the most difficult class any school has to offer.

Comparing grades and % at different schools doesnt work.

Last summer I took O-Chem II, I got a B and I went and talk to the teacher and he changed it into an A. I am a grad student and I basically told him that I am not a chem or bio major and a grad student in Information Technology. He gave us an ACS final and I had done better than national average but my quiz grade was bringing me down so he changed it. So just go talk to your professor it won't hurt, the worst is that he will say No which won't make any difference he can't take any thing from you.

it is quite annoying everyone is referring to me as a guy when I am a female. besides, because of all the people who say it didn't hurt, guess what, it didn't. 😎 2 for 2 man, oh yeah, that's an overall increase in .0004 in my gpa. thank god for psych surveys 😀

Just so you know, I think so med school look at the science grades and the preque grades seperately. Anyway one bad grade isn't going to do anything. But if you must, just be honest. I told my prof that I was lazy at the beginning of the quater, and I think I deserve a better grade bc I aced my final. Basically, my argument, who cares when I learn it as long as I learn it. bumped my grade up .4 pts. 🙂

I agree with shredder, this dude should not be hated or looked down upon. We have all been in this situation. If you have worked THAT hard and are so close to an A or an A- or any other grade you desired you should for sure fight for it. And screw that guy/girl who wrote that mean remark about "how they hate pre-meds for this." You have nothing left to lose!

This is why I love classes that have an auto A feature if you score x on the final.

My Prof at UCI for O-Chem gives an auto A if you score 160 (out of about 210 +/- some points) on the final.

Auto A....does that work for other letter grades too? Like Auto B, Auto C, etc.....if so that would really suck.

Nope, just for A's. The prof is the best o-chem teacher at my school. When I registered for classes (btw, I love on-line registration), there was only about 20/400 seats left the in professor's class.
