Asking dentist to shadow

Since it’s the holidays/end of the year, things can be a bit crazy around this time, so should I ask dentists about shadowing them now, or should I wait until after the new year to ask?

I asked my dentist office if I could shadow sometime during my winter break and one of the ladies told me I could come in the 2nd week of January. You could possibly find a dentist to shadow now but I would wait until after the year.
