I am wondering when it is acceptable to reach out to schools and ask for application counseling. As the new cycle is approaching, I would like to know if there's anything on my application I could work on or reasons why medical schools haven't accepted me this current cycle. I would like to reach out to each school (including and most importantly the ones I'm on WLs for). With the way wait lists are moving this year and the new traffic rules, I'm not sure if it's too soon to reach out.

You can try, but they are under no obligation to tell you the truth. My old boss worked in graduate admissions and said they often give sugarcoated answers because they don't want to be sued. I did so at 2 and got very vague answers for the next cycle.

Can't hurt but don't bank on just fixing what the school says was wrong and leaving it there. Lay your app bare on SDN, ask your admissions advisers, ask letter writers... don't put all your eggs in one basket.

You can ask for feedback on your rejection, but they are under no obligation to give it to you. It's also not their job to provide counseling on your app.
