Is it poor form to try and get letter of recommendation from programs you are auditioning at fourth year? As a D.O. student, I will be doing 5-6 orthopedic auditions at programs I am interested in. Is it weird to ask a doctor (or PD for that matter) at a program I am applying to and interested in for a letter of recommendation?

No it’s not weird. But often times it’s hard to spend enough time with one attending to get a meaningful letter from. However, I definitely auditions where I felt like I spent enough time with 2 or 3 attendings to get meaningful letters from. So it’s not impossible by any means. Just remember the timeline is condensed at audition time. You’ll want to try to get one from a July one August audition.
