Asking for LOR/Shadowing

I was curious as to how everyone asks for a letter of recommendation? If it's your teacher, would you send them a letter with a introduction of what the LOR is for, along with a synopsis of yourself, and a resume? For shadowing, would you basically do the same thing, excluding the resume?

I would say for sure let them know what the letter is for so it can be tailored. Other information in some cases might not be necessary, but you should give them the option of having it if they want it. For all my LORs I just straight up asked "do you want a CV ect. from me" and then gave them what they wanted.
