Hello SDN users!

I have submitted all of my application on August 1st including GPA verification, supplemental application and all those stuffs.
However, I have yet to get any update from NYU.

Is it freaky or crazy thing to ask for the application status update?
NYU is definately one of my top choice school so I am nervous that I haven't gotten any updates from them.. (Other than application complete email)

So in general, should I avoid sending emails to school regarding to my status update?

Not crazy! It's been almost 2 months so if it's really bugging you (and as long as NYU never asked you specifically not to) I'd say go ahead and email. Just make sure to be polite and express your interest 🙂

Th thing is, every school that I applied told me to refrain from emailing due to the high volume of emails they receive but it has been over 2 months and I am starting to get very nervous that I have been silently rejected.
(I think application is making me some kind of obsessive freak lol..)
As for the email should I just make an email short and direct? (about asking for my status? or should I be more specific like why this school is my first choice and stuffs..)

Oh gosh. Only some of my schools flat out said to refrain. If they said that, though, I wouldn't ask. Sorry :/ maybe the invite will come soon!! Don't lose hope! It's still super early. I can't imagine you've been rejected everywhere

For NYU (I looked up my app complete email again--> obsessed lol..) and it state that they are asking for the applicant to be patient with the process.. (isn't it telling just not to email and wait?)

I was wondering about this too, and I double check every mails I receieved and most of em state that shouldnt call or email for status update since there are many applications and stuff.. Bla bla bla

I want to call but those emails scare me too.

I would call. It almost forces them to answer you when you ask.

I have called some schools to get an update on my application status, and I have been given an answer every time. They were really nice about it too!

Emails can go unread or ignored (sad), so I'd call! 🙂

When was your app mailed out

I definitely would not contact them. Maybe it is just a personal ideal of mine, but that sounds a lot like being the obnoxious, grade obsessed kid in high school that asks the teacher when the results from the tests are going to be returned to the class. It will happen eventually, one way or another, and bothering them (especially if they indicated in their emails) can only hurt. I know waiting sucks, but it's part of the game.

I was worried whether they will think I am impatient and unprofessional.
I guess I will call and see what happens tommorrow..

Okay.. I guess I will wait now lol..

In the mean time, does anyone with mail out date Aug 7th received an interview from NyU?

If you don't mind me asking, which schools have you heard back so far?
I have recieved supplemental for several schools like Midwestern AZ, UCSF, Maryland.. Recieved confirmation that my application has been recieved at most schools I applies (NYU, BU, OHSU,..)

But that's about it. I havent gotten any interviews, or anything. I'm highly desperated, if you couldnt tell

I called them to ask about the status of my application, and the lady who answered was super nice!

You can definitely call them, it is their job and they enjoy helping candidates. As long as you are professional and you don't start calling every week with the same questions you will not bother anyone and it certainly won't reflect poorly on you. I think it is worse to never call to be honest.

I did a lot of hiring during my previous career and the candidates who called me asking questions were the ones that I felt were most enthusiastic about getting the job.

Maybe our batch is not even under review now? (perhaps)..
